I have been told it numerous times, and seen the message reinforced throughout society, both explicitly and implicitly
A couple of days ago, I had a notification that a book I was looking for had been put up for sale on Abebooks. For the low, low price of ยฃ1,300.
Feminism should be lifting up women, not putting down men
OK
Maybe he's an ungrateful arse who would not have been happy whatever the present.
Maybe she thinks a holiday is the best she will get.
The point is we don't know off the information given.
But a pen is not intrinsically a bad present.
You seem to be making a lot of assumptions. As far as we know OP just booked their normal family holiday up, then told his wife that was her present. While the wife spent days researching fountain pens and buying something that had personal resonance.
Or maybe not. We just don't know.
Yeah, I'm not sure the present was a biro. More likely a fountain pen.
Correct!
Pens are awesome. What have you got against pens?

It's not a modern *British* item. I, for one, would be willing to travel to the continent to obtain an under the counter rabid badger,if I knew it was to be set against the individual in question.
My experience is that men equally took that into consideration in my own generation (millenial).
My experience is not universal, it is UK centric and I have little exposure of subsequent generations, but it does not tally with what you present at all.
This seems grossly reductive to me. Men think like x, women think like y, is just too simplistic to be true.
I think going back to prior generations (Gen X and earlier) having children was seen as just something you did, by both genders. The practical implications obviously affected women more, but
Happy World Book Day, Bluesky. To celebrate, here's a sneak peak at my TBR drawer. Not to be confused with my TBR shelf. Or my other TBR shelf. Or my other TBR drawers.
