I'm continually impressed by the sound design in Silksong. It's low-key one of the standout aspects of the game for me, in a game where quality and polish are found at nearly every level.

Getting unexpected Cowboy Bebop vibes from the new roguelike game Lonestar, where you play as a bounty hunter in space. I dig this.
A note you find at the start of Blue Prince. It's your great uncle's will, laying out 3 rules for your inheritance that amount to 'when you fail everything will be reset'
In the emerging genre of roguelikes that actually try to explain why they Be Like That, Blue Prince comes in hot with "it was your great uncle's dying wish for you to play this like it's a roguelike."
There's still a lot of stuff I want to do in-game so I'll be playing more over the next few days.
Just rolled credits on Blue Prince, this is a great puzzle game. But I'm feeling very mixed about whether the game needed any roguelike mechanics at all. And this game desperately needs the ability to save during runs, my last two runs were 2+ hours each.
I think there's a good chance we get a Slay the Spire 2 EA launch date here
Looking forward to this, it was my favorite showcase from last year

Turn-based Doom? Yes, itβs real.
And now, you can take it anywhere.
Jupiter Hell is out NOW on Nintendo Switch!

I definitely want to do a playthrough/deep dive of the SaGa series at some point, thanks for the recommendation!
In SaGa Frontier, at the end of a battle your monster-type allies can absorb defeated enemy monsters, and they learn their skills and eventually transform into that type of monster, gaining its attributes
A brief summary for those curious:
In Dungeonmans, your battle poultry can eat steaks that enemies drop on death, to gain some of their attributes and learn their abilities, and this can also change what your battle poultry looks like. (Battle poultry are like pets or familiars)
Here are some additional references on the systems as implemented in Dungeonmans and SaGa Frontier:

It was cool learning how Dungeonmans' Battle Poultry skill system was in part based on SaGa Frontier's monster absorption system (Roguelike Radio Ep. 158, 43m53s). SaGa Frontier was one of my favorite games as a kid and throughout high school.

Caves of Qud Nebula award stream with co-creator and writer Jason Grinblat. Monday, Feb 3rd, 3-5pm at twitch.tv/ptychomancer
[setting aside the incandescent anger, trying to, just for a moment]
π§ Tomorrow I'm doing a "for your consideration" Caves of Qud stream for the scifi writing award season (Nebula, Hugo) π§
In an unexpected turn, I've basically become a fulltime mushroom farmer in Citizen Sleeper. I've stumbled into a point in the game where there's nothing I can't do with these beauties:
Food? Mushrooms.
Drink? Mushrooms.
Money? Mushrooms.
Healing? Mushrooms.
They solve all of the game's challenges.
Just started Citizen Sleeper in anticipation of its upcoming sequel, and this game rules. I want to stay up all night playing this π
Hey folks, I know a lot is happening right now, and it feels inconsiderate to talk about it...
But the game I spent the last 2.5 years of my life on, Hyper Light Breaker, is out today as early access. If you could check it out, it would mean a lot to me.

I love the music in 1000xResist, definitely checking out the full soundtrack once I finish the game
Inkbound is a cool game. I can't help but wonder what the alternate timeline looks like where they didn't try to make it a live service game. For me, those elements were a distraction and detracted from the good parts of the game.
"The very short version is that Inkbound didn't manage to hit the sales numbers we needed it to for ongoing support, and that combined with the current state of the game industry put us in a place as a studio where we needed to rapidly refocus."
I haven't seen this posted anywhere except for their official discord, but Shiny Shoe says it has "no plans for content updates on the horizon" for Inkbound and is refocusing to work on a new game. Servers will remain online for the foreseeable future.
Unironically good traditional roguelike advice - Enemy too difficult? Get out of there!
Phew, it's been a long, long trip, but Caves of Qud 1.0 is finally out there.
Hope you all, new and old, enjoy the ride!

The Dawn of the Mexica developer made a wiki for their game, and it looks like a thorough resource for players looking to learn more about the game

And me being able to follow discussions, track how the meta shifts, share experiences with friends; can all really enhance the overall experience, elevating a game that I may not have played much of otherwise.
I've played a ton of The Bazaar over the past two weeks, and even though there are *a lot* of things I don't like about the game, I've been enjoying the core gameplay. But I think even more than that, every now and then I like playing a game that is popular and has an active community.
