Funding from a publisher could be $300k, for example, with a back-end of $100k for marketing and localisation. But once marketing and localisation are considered, the ask from a flat funding body might be closer to $450k.
A funder does not automatically do these things, so localisation, marketing, trailers, community building, etc are almost always the responsibility of the developers to do or source on their own.
Publishers usually have existing relationships and experience in marketing, and often have a dedicated marketing department/person. They are there to get the game to market as successfully as possible.
A publisher is someone who offers a 'Publisher advance' in funding that is usually less than the total cost of getting the game to market. They will do some silent calculations about localisation, marketing, etcetera which will be a part of their total ROI costings.
A screenshot of a white screen with the words '"Edutainment is for pussies", how 'serious games assisted in the obfuscation of the seriousness of games'.
What if I woke up and chose violence?
Yeah we also figured it'd make it easier for her to identify if any behaviour was weird. We don't teach 'stranger danger' we teach 'strange behaviour'.
Thanks you. We've always just tried to talk to her normally and teach her about the world as best as we can. Sometimes we say 'That's a little complicated, I can explain it when your brain is more developed', and she goes 'Ah okay it's cause I'm a kid.'
Like, a wrapped, sealed condom that had fallen out of the box before anyone panics.
I dunno. I just see so many people say 'I'll tell you when you get older', but when she found a condom on the floor I flat said, 'Oh that's for sex. You know, the grown up thing?' 'Oh okay'.
Am I weird for never really hiding the idea of sex as a thing from our daughter? She knows it's a 'grown up thing' and it involves adults touching, and that she's not allowed to do it.
She even knocks on closed doors and says 'Is this a grown up talk?'

EA execs expecting Battlefield 6 to hit 100M players is not setting unrealistic expectations of the studios, itβs setting them up to fail on purpose to mask the fact that they had already made the decision to make the redundancies.

*Walks away*.
If you're scared of protesting or a general strike because you could lose your job, healthcare, and housing, or even go to jail, now you understand why the US has no universal healthcare or housing and no guaranteed parental leave, but DOES have the largest prison and police system on planet Earth.
I'm so short I'm probably still trying to scale it.
JUMP THE FENCE LUCE I GOT YOU.
Yyyeeeessss. My brand of dark romance. I'm literally writing exactly that.
... we don't interact at all, and this just emblazons itself across my feed. Amazing.
Analog hair does some insane stuff but I've never been personally. My alt hairdresser is Wildilocks who I have been going to on and off for 10 years and did all my wild coloured hair.
DEAR TRANS KIDS, THIS WORLD IS BETTER WITH YOu IN IT AND YOU AR E WORTH FIGHTING FOR.
I LOVE THIS TOPIC. I WILL BE HERE FOREVER. CAREFUL.
The hardest part of writing Incarnal is that I have to do it in second person present tense which is PAINFUL for me.
Let people write the perspective and tense they want to write in.
Sometimes perspective preference can also stop us experiencing great stories. I read three present tense, close third person perspective books about a zombie apocalypse because it was just *that* interesting. I suffered for the experience, but it was worth it.
I would also very much like to see someone smooch a Harlequin. It was a CRIME I couldn't kiss Nocturnal in Rogue Trader.
βTehran is burning. And smoke has filled the streets. Itβs impossible to drive out of the city right now and even with the windows closed, heavy smoke is making its way inside."
Read every word.
Monster romance, morally grey/black main characters, violence and no good choices, villains finding romance, etcetera, can all be an aspect of dark romance. It is, essentially, a generatic disclaimer of 'here there be dragons (and trauma).'
This is why I mentioned dark romantacy. Superficial readings of dark romantacy are hand-waved abuse and the dark fantasies of that. But if we follow the creation of dark fantasy, it's actually about hard choices, complexity, and despairing worlds in which love can be found.
