"The Pirate's Ball" πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈβœ¨

This is a repaint I did of a piece back from 2021. Started back in Feb but just had the time to finish. Loosely inspired by a throw away in Peter Pan 2003 about Hook's plot to kidnap Cinderella.

Prints and the original piece below!

I smack you with Claire Hummel's immaculate and detailed understanding of costume design, which she got by studying historical references, which made her strong, which you will not become by relying on AI

An illustration of two masculine figures together, one sitting on the other's lap with a hand on the other's chin, their eyes locked together. They wear fancy period clothing like a powdered wig and corset, one specifically dressed in very gender-nonconforming attire. A magenta banner at the top says "We've Always Been Here: A queer historical zine" and a blue banner at the bottom says "launches in 24 hours!"

Very interesting to see Expedition 33 analyzed in the context of French history & politics. Turn on those subtitles and listen to voices from all across the world - they'll expand your horizons and help you grow.

Evergreen for how I operate:

β€œQueer' not as being about who you're having sex with (that can be a dimension of it); but 'queer' as being about the self that is at odds with everything around it and that has to invent and create and find a place to speak and to thrive and to live.” πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

Had an idea for Kingdom Hearts art. Love the idea of a Young Xehanort surviving in Tokyo training Sora to be a Master after Sora gets out of his service industry job he has to do to pay rent. Something very 80's/karate kid about it. KH4 is going to be ridiculous

Talking openly about this in public too, so I think it’s time to ask ourselves what we collectively want to do in response to a billionaire class that is not embarrassed about declaring themselves kings.

Continuous not making our goals is sinking us. We need $500 to make it through this week without any bills considered. We need groceries, meds, and to keep fundraising for bills and the hope of getting these root canals tackled so I can find relief.

Please help us get to the surface again:

Hello congresswoman!

There is talk of β€œworkers must benefit from Ai”

I fear that might normalize the original sin of GenAi: stealing the work of an immense number of artists, without consent, credit or compensation, to power their models.

How can we make sure creative workers aren’t left behind?

Newcastle pubs ban AI art from breweries to protect local creatives As two pubs in Newcastle ban AI art, artists discuss the impact it can have on creatives.

"no longer be accepting AI art, including on bottles and pump clips, in order to try to protect local artists from losing out on work."

Poppy Playtime, much like FNAF, confuses its never ending series of lore dumps, explicit or hidden, for narrative. Whatever emotional arc is happening is being crushed under the weight of its own ever expanding wiki and is mostly propped up by *vibes*

I truly can’t handle reading this news about OpenAI’s disregard for public safety on the same day as I saw Sam Altman equate the energy use of AI models with the energy use of humans, reducing humanity to a resource calculation to be managed so he can pursue his AGI god.

I’m just so disgusted.

The U.S. spent $30 billion to ditch textbooks for laptops and tablets: The result is the first generation less cognitively capable than their parents | Fortune Neuroscientist Jared Cooney Horvath said older generations β€œscrewed up” giving students access to so much technology: β€œI genuinely hope Gen Z quickly figures that out and gets mad.”

Now THAT's a headline.
