If someone mentions The Chair on Reddit I have regular sales for at least a couple weeks.

The only reason Let Me Be Your Thrall sold so well at PAX is because a few people wouldn't shut up about it, and then a bunch of people wouldn't shut up about it, and then I almost sold out at my first physical print run
So yeah don't shut up about the things you are into
For the record, y'all reposting this all day has now dwarfed the previous bar, further proving my point haha
This is why I started @whatchadoingpod.bsky.social!!!
Just the idea of getting stuff directly in front of people to be interested in

Hey since y'all like this post so much buy the game I'm talking about maybe? It's in early access, but the copy editing is nearly done and the final physical version is right around the corner!

Every time someone posts about or reposts anything to do with CHVLR, I get an observable amount of sales. Even though the game has been out for a few years now, every post matters!
Yell about stuff you like, shove it in people's faces!
We have 3x the views and downloads as the result 1-3 people adding us to their collections on itch than we have from our Glass Cannon feature or tabling at MAGFest (we had other benefits from those things! just not sheer number of eyeballs). Word of mouth is crucial for small titles!
Backed and then bought this, itβs a joy to read. (Also, the podcast is really good guys, check it out)
Bonus, it gives us a happy warm joy feeling. Real Make Your Day vibes.
What TTRPG designer would you like to hear GM a one-shot of their own game?
(Bonus question: who would be the coolest special guest player for that one-shot?)
Get @diceynova.bsky.social to run you a game of Dragon Reactor, you won't regret it.
Aside from $100 spent on a Project Wonderful campaign back in my pre-Eruditorum days, Iβve never spent a cent on advertising. Iβve relied entirely on word of mouth. Itβs crucial for indie success in any medium.
Talking about it is literally the best way to support indie media besides your wallet.
Same with comics.

Fun fact, that isn't exclusive to just TTRPG systems and what have you, it applies to virtually everything out there.
Books, video games, TTRPGs, fuck- YouTube channels and streams.
Word of mouth is king, and it means *so fuckin' much* to the person that created whatever you're talking about.
It really is just money in the pocket for indies; so many folks *want the thing*, they just haven't heard of it, in my experience.
In Reddit in particular, self-promotion is heavily discouraged, so we rely heavily on fans and peers to bring up our work when relevant.
And rate the damn things! It's not hard. Especially if you are getting games for free. LEAVE A FIVE STAR RATING!

A screenshot from itch.io dashboard showing views over the past two weeks. It jumps from around 30 per day on average to 80+ per day in the last two days.
I cannot stress enough how important it is that you recommend indie TTRPGs you like online. Someone on Reddit asked for a game rec, only like 3 out of 20 people said my game, but it made for a massive wave of visits to the Itch page. Word of mouth is real.

Happy March! Been about a month since the last BTH dev update, so just wanted to share again where we're at. TL;DR: No news is good news, all is going well, editing is underway, read the details on Itch:

Just one of the improvements coming to v1.0 of Bite the Hand:
The individual cybernetics now have little icons indicating their category, so you won't have to spend as much time flipping back and forth to the master list! The power of public playtesting and feedback at work.
βIs there a technology the left is excited about?β
High-speed rail! MRNA vaccines! New cancer treatments! Solar and wind energy collection! Better and longer-range EVs! That wood that's harder than steel! New apples! Fibermaxxing! Buldak Swicy ramen! Muppets! Muppets are too a technology, shut up!
