@NicoleJLeBoeuf I too had always assumed you couldn't eat the green tops! Fascinating.

I wish my housemate liked that type of potato soup, because *man* is that a fast meal. My soup uses cut-up potatoes (and also kielbasa), so it takes longer, though not too long.

This is a hell of a day to have to both pay my estimated taxes and report in for jury duty. Under a decent administration I don't mind upholding my civic responsibilities, but under this murderous pack of lying assholes . . .

Favorite (new) #books this year by familiar authors β€”

The Relentless Moon by @maryrobinette: I loved the rest of the series, but this one may be my favorite. Heartbreaking at points but in the best ways.

Witch King by @marthawells: a new series by a favorite author, fascinating and deeply […]

I initially didn't pay attention to this Kickstarter because, frankly, the title made me assume it was some kind of sex comedy. Instead it's a deeply Jewish comedic noir about demons -- so if that appeals to you, back it now!

Even when the world is on fire, we can still have nice things. In fact, we need them now more than ever.

A poem in staggered stanzas, alternating the lyrics of the original song with new lines:

	A Work in Progress
	by Marie Brennan

Oh beautiful for spacious skies
					and endless stolen land
For purple mountain majesties
					above the slave-chained band
America! America!
					God’s mercy may we see
And crown thy good with brotherhood
for we, not just for thee.

O beautiful for pilgrim feet --
-- except those turned away --
A thoroughfare for freedom beat --
-- to Christian God please pray --
America! America!
					Will you admit your flaws?
Confirm they soul in self-control;
don’t shrine your sins as laws.

O beautiful for heroes proved
					(including those unsung)
Who more than self their country loved
and would not hold their tongue.
America! America!
					The road ahead is long,
Till all success be nobleness
					and right replaces wrong.

O beautiful for patriot dream
that we still work to build,
Thine alabaster cities gleam,
					a promise not yet filled.
America! America!
					God’s mercy may we see
And crown thy good with brotherhood
For we, not just for thee.

The Atlas of Anywhere - Swan Tower Strange guardians overseeing fate-bound duels. A priceless stone on a journey toward a bloody destiny. A thief determined to steal a worthless treasure. In her second collection of worlds-spanning fantasy, award-winning author Marie Brennan takes you back to the world of her famed heroine Lady Trent, through the land of her Hugo Award-nominated poem "A War of Words," and onward to seven other fantastical realms, filled with pirates, demigods, and murderous creatures of winter’s cold night.

New short story collection today! THE ATLAS OF ANYWHERE collects eight of my recent secondary-world fantasy tales, plus my Hugo Award-nominated poem "A War of Words":

@crystalvisits How is it that sometimes we don't want to do even things we generally enjoy? Brains, man. Can't live with 'em, become an inert meat sack on the floor without 'em.
