Esquire Theatre

With deep sadness, the current operator of the Mariemont Theatre confirms that, at the request of the property's owner, the Theatre is closed, effective immediately. Following the bankruptcy of the prior operator in 2019, the current owner made a valiant effort to continue the legacy of independent theatre in Mariemont. Unfortunately, within days of taking over the theatre's operations, the new ownership was confronted with the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic shutdown. These difficulties were compounded by a dramatically shortened theatrical‑to‑streaming window for new releases and significant studio consolidation, resulting in fewer films available for exhibition each year. Despite these obstacles, ownership's commitment to the community, to regional filmmakers, to valued local partners, and to fellow movie lovers inspired them to persevere. Through these efforts, the treasured Mariemont Theatre remained a vibrant and meaningful part of Cincinnati’s moviegoing landscape for more than five years. During this period, the Mariemont Theatre expanded far beyond traditional new‑release programming. We introduced additional repertory screenings, special events, private rentals, film series, live podcast events, local premieres, partner‑curated cult programming, film festivals, and interactive cinema experiences. The current owner has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars and countless hours into preserving and improving the Theatre—all in service of providing the best possible moviegoing experience for patrons. Across the US, hundreds of theatre locations have gone dark since 2019. We'd hoped not to join those statistics; however, despite our sustained efforts and personal investment, the challenges proved insurmountable. We thank our valued patrons, friends, and theatre family for their support and loyalty over the years and hope you will continue to back mainstream and independent cinema by visiting our sister locations Kenwood and Esquire Theatres.

I'm woolly excited about this movie coming out next year and ewe should be too. If this baaariliant movie isn't on your radar, it very well should be. It is a shear delight and I really think folks will flock to theatres to see it. No bleating around the bush- best talking animal film since Babe.

December is such great movie month! We have 3 new films that couldn't be more different but are all getting great reviews. Paul Feig's THE HOUSEMAID, the new SPONGEBOB movie that critics are saying is one of the best of the series, and the AVATAR film that brings the story full circle. #Cincinnati
