People get pissed and shoot each other for taking a parking spot. What do you think they’re going to feel when you blow up their kids, their cars, their schools, their homes, and their economy? Probably not gratitude.

I’ve seen a few framed kits that were finished on the sprues, I kinda want to try that as a first attempt of the on-spruce process and *then* focus on the assembly and touch up phases…

Seeing the news that Jay is stepping down and ya know, if a VC comes in blows up BlueSky, I’ll miss my pilot and modeler follows, but will probably benefit mentally from the loss. So…¯\_(ツ)_/Β― guess I’ll wait to see what happens.

Obviously it works or you wouldn’t do it, but I’ve always felt that all the touch-ups would be noticeable, so I assemble and putty and sand first. Can I ask for some process pics as you go? I’d love to learn a new system, especially because it looks like it could be a better way for me…

As a dad, I’m worried and taking care of the fam (and me!) as the flu burns through the house. As a pilot, I’m so fuckin’ mad I’m missing the decent weather to fly. KHAAAAAANNNNN!!!!!!

Still have the WATFOR77 compiler, but I admit I haven’t used FORTRAN since 2007

Replied to a (specific) post tonight and I feel like I’m both ancient and also surrounded by my people, so I’m going to bed happier than I’ve felt in months

I’m going to trigger even more people and mention that I used a punchcard system on an Apple ][+

I once killed the VAX/VMS system by accident because I programmed an β€œout of office” message and so did a friend, but neither of us did any error capture or dupe checking and we started a loop that sent something like 2MM emails internally in 8 hours

Funny - I learned I didn’t like the coding as much as the story telling and creation aspect and wound up focusing more on essentially DMing

I started on TrekMOO and eventually wound up as a god on a MUD, in part because I knew a guy who knew a guy, but also because I programmed the weirdest shit, like objects that would record people in a room

OMG, I got punched in the face in homeroom for β€œhogging” the PET and still have a ceramic crown incisor because of that

I’m going to add - and age myself a bit - that the first computer I paid for with *my own* money was a CompuAdd 80286 12.5MHz system with a 40MB HDD, 1MB RAM, 14” VGA monitor, single 3.5” floppy, and a Panasonic KX-1180i 9-pin dot matrix printer that got me through college. Paid $2100 including tax.

Never used a Stanley, we found that using a second disk as a template, you could use a standard hole puncher and that would work - you were hardcore!

*130XE, dammit

Love it - we had a 400, an 800, and a 103XE (β€œ128MB of RAM is all you need!”)

I recall typing in soooooo many lines of text for β€œThunderbird!” which was a Pong knock-off with lightning and it took FOR EV AR

love this. I know the sound of a 300 baud handshake, heard through a literal handset to physical modem connection. I remember the sound of cassette drive storage. I used a hole puncher to make DS/DD floppies. My first email address was through a VAX system. I was too old for ICQ! I PROGRAMMED A MOO
