A graphic showing that interactions between the nervous system and type 2 immunity occur across multiple organs depending on the context of allergic triggers or injury.
In a recent #ScienceImmunology Review, researchers discuss how interactions between the nervous and immune systems could impact neurological disorders and allergy-related behaviors like food avoidance.

Dr. Stephanie Eisenbarth found that the same molecules make the gut lining leakyβallowing more allergen into the bloodstream.
That leakiness may be what pushes a reaction from uncomfortable⦠to life-threatening.
Her team also showed Zileuton stopped this leakβand prevented anaphylaxis.
FASI Scientific Founder Dr. Ruslan Medzhitov discovered that special gut cells release leukotrienesβmolecules that amplify allergic inflammation.
Block those molecules, stop the cascade.
When mice were treated with the asthma drug Zileuton, they were fully protected from food-induced anaphylaxis.
Why do some allergic reactions turn deadlyβwhile others stay mild?
Two new @science.org papers, funded by @FASI and led by our researchers, uncover the gutβimmune connection that may hold the answer. π§΅π

@blackasphodel.bsky.social yes! All of our research into IgE mediated food allergies is applicable to Alpha-Gal.
Big win for early allergen introduction! π₯π³πΆ New guidelines on introducing allergenic foods to babies have drastically reduced food allergiesβfrom 12% down to just 4% in high-risk infants. #FoodAllergy #PediatricHealth #EarlyFeeding #ParentingTips www.jaci-inpractice.org/article/S221...

Complex chart showing a peanut above the skin layer with S. Aureus bacteria. This triggers a chain of reaction in the skin and in the lymph nodes. When the baby eats the peanut, it triggers the tuft cells and SAP and this eventually causes mast cells to degranulate.
π₯ Food Allergies may start in the Skin, not just the Gutπ₯
Damaged skin (as with eczema) can let food proteins in, priming IgE responses that later trigger gut Mast Cells, which drives allergic reactions & anaphylaxis. buff.ly/Nfo06vB
