exactly!!! which is the same problem iPads and iPhones suffer from!!! so many people just have no understanding of how to execute any real agency over their devices at all beyond "software update? remind me later". and in the current climate, this is more important than ever
we joke "i hate looking at the bad screen at school/work, i wanna go home and look at the good screen!" but it's so fucking true. no wonder people just use their phones and tablets for everything. the chromebook experience can make people never wanna touch a real computer outside of obligation again
when my school loaned us polycarbonate MacBooks, it was so exciting. using them was ALWAYS exciting. maybe this was specifically MY love for macOS blooming, but it felt like i could do anything with it. i fear this magic is lost on chromebooks that feel like more of a CHORE to use than anything
younger gen have used iPads from childhood into college because it's familiar, convenient, and it works well enough, but it's painfully atrophied their basic understanding of how a computer works. i truly hope that MacBook Neo can get people interested and excited about using desktop OS again
of course people are going to buy it because it's new, it's apple, and it looks pretty. fine by me! more kids should be handed something with a desktop OS than an iPad. maybe they'll learn what a file system is. bc unlike far too many cheap windows laptops, this thing'll probably be enjoyable to use
MacBook Neo is the most interesting apple product in years. many budget laptops have been mid-to-awful for years, so a lot of ppl, esp gen z, just use their phones for everything. a product with a price attractive enough to bring desktop operating systems back into vogue could bring a paradigm shift
