Hell from my understanding Chocobo Mystery Dungeon is VERY popular as a hidden gem sorta series

Does popularity matter? Your complaint is similarity between games. The Mystery Dungeon has been consistent for decades. If your complaint is "I can get this same experiece elsewhere so why bother", at least be consistent

Also I'm a fan of neither DQ nor FF and have heard about these for years

Dragon Quest, Shiren, and Final Fantasy all had multiple mystery dungeon games by the time Pokemon got its first release

Mystery Dungeon wasn't a new idea either. It ALSO took from Dragon Quest
