Thanks, felt the contrast between the natural and artificial was needed for this.

Miniature model crater with sci-fi miniature base taking up the interior. Surrounded by 3mm tanks and mechs from Brigade Models
Miniature model crater with sci-fi miniature base taking up the interior. Surrounded by 3mm tanks and mechs from Brigade Models, slightly flatter angle than previous image
After the previous post I decided to just get on with painting the crater. Quite pleased with the results.
3D printed sci-fi miniature base surrounded by modelling clay to look like a crater.
Made some progress on my crater base. Now need to decide how to paint the crater itself.
Do it, this base was crying out for this. Even thinking of using bases like this to stick on asteroids for space games.
Sci-fi looking structures, placed inside a created made from clay. Currently just grey primer before painting.
I acquired a large 3D printed sci-fi base as part of a bundle from www.beowulfminiatures.com but I was never going to have anything that big to put on it. Therefore Iβve put it inside a crater to act as a base for my 3mm/6mm games.
If it's going to the landfill/dump then keeping it is the best solution (at least that's what I tell myself π)
These MDF pieces came from the backing board of an old picture frame. Most picture frames from a pound shop/dollar store have a nice piece of MDF/fiber board you can use. Also I've just thrown out an old Ikea cupboard and saved the backing boards from that for more basing/craft material.
6 sci-fi style standing stones forming a ring made from various pieces of MDF painted black with glowing green highlights on hexagonal bases with green glowing basing material
6 sci-fi style standing stones made from various pieces of MDF painted black with glowing green highlights on hexagonal bases with green glowing basing material
Quick easy build using off cuts of MDF, to be used as sci-fi standing stones. I finally got to use the Krautcover - Eternal Fields Base Cover I got from @badsquiddogames.bsky.social last year!
Lost it not list it, this is never for sale π
Picture of CD box set of BBC radio adaptation of Lord of the Rings
Happy days, thought Iβd list this after the last house move, but just found it in a box of old CDβs! π
Selection of 28mm sci-fi robot looking miniatures. All with a first coat of blue paint as the base
Toy construction vehicles with wipes draped over the top to look like tarpaulins. Sprayed with grey primer.
3mm sci-fi dome style buildings set out as two settlements, grey base colour added.
Some how Iβve ended up with lots of projects in need of paint, rather than just in the pile of shame. Need to finish my robot army, got a mix of necromancy and others. Some toy vehicles with tarps for more terrain features and 3mm sci-fi buildings from Brigade Models.
Lovely, just found two of these in an old box of minis!
My dealer has kept me well supplied π
Thanks, I couldn't believe it was all going to be thrown away.
6mm sci-fi tanks and bipedal mechs move through a ruined city scratchbuilt out of discarded 3D printer supports
I have a friend with a 3D printer. They let me have some of the supports normally destined for the bin. I made them into ruined buildings.
More cloth rats for 2026 please π
I painted mine for Christmas!
Statuesque Miniatures diorama showing a scene with two cloth doll miniatures and a cloth cat surrounded by grass, flowers and a giant mushroom
Statuesque Miniatures diorama showing a scene with three singing cloth rat miniatures and a cloth old lady surrounded by grass, flowers and a giant mushroom
Painted these for Christmas presents this year. The minis are from Statuesque Miniatures. I really like them and this was fun to paint something different.
Three painted 28mm robot minis with a skeleton style
My 3D print comment was aimed at this not quite Necron. I had a number of robot miniatures so decided to repaint them in a similar scheme and use them all in the same army. We also have here an old EM4 robot and AT-43 mini. I think they will blend in well enough.
I guess part of the problem is we don't have well established standards for 3D prints. Between quality/resolution and material used it feels like we don't actually know what we are going to receive.
I should add this isn't dismissing 3D printed miniatures, maybe the ones I've got are not made of the best material, I await to be educated on that front, but I'm not enjoying having miniatures that are so precious I'm scared of others handling them.
I'm not sure I like 3D printed miniatures. One fell off the desk and broke into three pieces after hitting floor 60cm below. Yes it allows a sculptor to make dynamic (and thin) miniatures that would have to be multipart in traditional casting. But as a result they lack a robustness I'm used to. π€
Scratchbuilt miniature craters filled with lava made from orange coloured hot glue
Made myself some scale agnostic volcano/craters. Found some transparent orange hot glue and couldnβt resist using it for these.
Such a nice vibrant colour for the rocks. Must lighten mine up a bit.
If you need further disturbing I have an article on how I made it here germy.co.uk/scratchbuild...
www.youtube.com/@JasonSkye is streaming a cracking Dark synthwave set right now come join the fun, especially if you are currently painting something or avoiding the Christmas music π
two figures made completely out of rubber fishing lure maggots in the form of a humanoid monster
Still working on a sculpted version but decided to repaint my old scratchbuilt maggot monster. The one on the right has been done with Vallejo Xpress Colour paints to give it a more realistic look. Still need to give it a gloss varnish to make it look nice and slimy.
Apparently itβs not a Direwolf but a Warhawk.
Blasphemy! π they will eventually go on hex bases when I get some. Itβs only right.
Atlas and Marauder battletech miniatures in 6mm scale
Blood Asp and Dire Wolf battletech miniatures in 6mm scale
Itβs been over 30 years since I painted a battletech mini. Need to get myself some hex bases to finish these heavies.
