This was a regression: Texas recently passed laws (by guess who) making it so that you could no longer vote except right in the precinct in which you registered.

Like the thing that's wrong with voting in America is not that we have broken systems or a misunderstanding of how to improve the process, it's that one of the two parties is committed to anti-democracy. No simple way to reform that.
Like in blue states like California we mostly vote by mail. There's no hassle at all. The GOP would like very much to ban that.

No voter ID is not in place nationally. Voter ID in the US is a specific effort to disenfranchise millions. We don't *have* national IDs of any kind besides passports which are held by few.
Right now, with this administration in charge? One of the few remaining defenses against the kinds of things people worry about is decentralized, state run election infrastructure. I'm glad we have it. And Voter ID is one of the things the GOP wants most!
US citizen here: the people you are really addressing are "Republicans", whose vested interest for years is to make voting more difficult and disenfranchise minorities who overwhelmingly support Democrats. Most Americans know it could be better and want it to be. The GOP has stopped us.
