The combination of the dark, grey, wet and cold days and the constant stream of vile horror coming from the outside world is making this time of year quite difficult for me. Can't wait for the spring.
It could say 'without anaesthetic'* and the queue would be the same.
*I have experienced this.
Some years ago I bought some shoe snow grips (essentially a frame with twisted wire that you put around your shoe) and they're ugly to look at and not good walking on normal conditions but they do work on snow & ice. Something like that might be at least a temporary solution.
Really good piece, and made me think about how such a resistance would work here in the UK, should it become necessary.
It has been said that in Gene Rodenberry's Star Trek universe, to arrive at the post-scarcity world of Starfleet and the Federation we had to go though a pandemic and then a nuclear world war. At what stage in the proceedings are we now? Yikes. It is scary and stressful to read the news.

I've said it before. Those celebrating Trump's attack may be in for a rude awakening. He's not there for a restoration of democracy. There's a number of complex reasons why he did that but none to do with democracy or the rule of law. He doesn't believe in any of it any more than Maduro does
Whatever you might think of Maduro, the seizure and kidnapping of a head of state takes us to a very dark place. Vast, arbitrary, extra-legal power, which could be exercised almost anywhere, regardless of the character of the target government.
Those amongst my Venezuelan friends who are believing Trump is acting in the best interests of democracy and my country might be in for a rude awakening. I just hope Vz doesn't turn into an Iraq and, eventually, a vassal state of Trumpistan.
The complications of putting boots on the ground, capturing Maduro and sending him to the US are vastly bigger than those of bombing some strategic sites, but it is not impossible. I'm trying to check that my family and friends in Vz are ok. I just hope my original country doesn't turn into an Iraq.
I don't normally follow that kind of news but it is rather gratifying to learn that Andrew Tate had his enormously inflated 'alpha-male' ego punctured in public, on a boxing ring where apparently he was going to demonstrate his alpha male-ness
