Neon sign for the DOG HOUSE, which includes a weiner dog who is evidently wagging the shit out of his little tail.
Also, indisputably worth it ust for the sign:
A bent red neon tube with a hole in the middle of it. The hole exposes a white inner coating of the red tube. The tube is floating above an outline of the pigeon template.
I had an oopsie along the way - this coated glass loves to just break if you reheat it. Or, you know, even look at it funny.
The white stuff in the tube is the phosphor that glows. The tube is filled with argon and mercury - and the Hg goes off UV light to excite it.
It's going to take ~2 weeks or so before the shop will pump it - and if there is a crack I'll have to rework parts. But, it's coming along!
The pigeon building three units of glass, they body and stripes are white glass (which will glow blue, green, and pink) and a bright red eye (which will glow red) electrodes are on the ends and itβs sitting on a dirty workbench.
A close up of the red eye. An electrode is on one end and a hose is on the other. The eye is almost shaped like a sideways omega symbol
A side view of the neon pigeon. Neon signs are generally two layers - the back layer being interconnections between glass and to allow for bends that are too narrow to make on a single pane of glass.
Ok itβs off to be pumped. Iβm not super in love with the shape of the head but will probably remake that soon.
A red tube of glass bent in a triangular shape with a bright yellow cork in one end of the tube
Having to add handles to the red glass tube so that I can bend them around the flame
Two different r pieces of white glass fused together to make the stripes around the pigeon neck
A close up of the tube with one end glowing pink under UV light
A close up of the other end of the tube glowing green under uv light
Neck rings almost done. They will glow two different colors
An outline of a pigeon drawing, with a red segment of neon glass marked to be bent in to the eye of the bird. Below that are two white tubes that will glow green and pink when illuminated.
Working on an evil red pigeon eye (pattern flipped for bending)
I'm a sucker for neon. The Jordan Motel, Jamestown, Tennessee. #photography
My idea of happiness is a dark night and a neon sign.
As night falls, the classic roadside advertisement of the Tropical Acres neon sign glows with blue, red, and white hues directing visitors and locals to the local landmark restaurant located 2 miles west of the sign.
A print of this fantastic iconic neon sign will be shipping to a buyer in Broward, FL! Thank you for supporting small business artists! May you enjoy your purchase for many years to come.

Do I need it? No
Do I want it? π
ββThereβs no one to blame,β said Kelsey McClellan, a local sign-maker who is looking to start a nonprofit for preserving the cityβs classic neon signs. βWe need to figure out how the goal of preservation becomes more important than profiting.ββ

A neon sign that says "FREE DELIVERY" but the "R" has been covered up by a small bag, so instead it says "FEE DELIVERY." (The sign also has a a ramen bowl & the word "OPEN" on it, but that's irrelevant to the joke.)
When you no longer offer free delivery but don't want to pay for a new neon sign.
Neon sign saying THE BLUE ROOM, think itβs been here since the 50s, and the interior hasnβt changed in 60 years
Who else needs a drink?
Thank you! It'll be a few weeks before I get to the shop again but I think this will be a fun project.
Hey @aplante.com - may I try making a version of the right pigeon in neon? It'll take a few weeks but seems like a fun project.
Now I want a Plate Of Shrimp.
Multiple neon tubes mounted inside a large box emerge from the floor. Two sides of the box are clear glass, allowing a view inside. Other surfaces within the box are glossy black, reflecting the glow of the tubes and creating an "infinity" effect. The tubes are green, red, orange, yellow, and blue.
Close-up of a green neon tube stamped with "VOLARC GREEN" emerging from an electrode housing in the floor of the box. Red and blue tubes are visible behind it.
Infinity Column (1973) by Washington sculptor John Geise, on display in the A Concourse at Seattle-Tacoma Airport. If you're passing through, take some time to check out the many art installations here. And just look at that lovely Voltarc Green!

A neon sign reading "SUPPORT OUR TROOPS", but the first two letters in "troops" is burned out, making it "oops"

Some sad news to round out the night. Apparently Erie-LaSalle Body Shop sold to Gerber Collision & Glass, and with it, their iconic neon sign has left it's perch along Milwaukee Avenue. For the time being it's gone to Industrial Artifacts of DeKalb, IL. Photo from December 5th, 2025
β¦. I think these should be made in to real neon signs π€
Looking good!
An outline of a bicycle made of glass neon. The wheels are orange and neon red, the pedals and seat are blue and the chain green.
Rudi Stern: Jeffβs Bike (1984) Considered the primary architect of the 20th-century neon revival, Rudi Sternβs influence on the craft is unmatched. This work, 61Β 1/4"Γ37Β 1/2", is currently in the studio for restoration & refresh. Note: the bike frame is black light, so almost no visible light.
Unsurprisingly, I wanted one of these growing up.
But my use of the phone was primarily limited to 56kbps
Dear weather gods, if you could stop, that would be great. I'd like to get back home. kthx.
A neon sign of an apple, in the break room at Tein Cities Public Television
I was at the Twin Cities Public Television studios last night for a VocalEssence spot on @tptalmanac.bsky.social, and this neon apple was in the break room. I wonder if this is the apple that was part of the set of the old KTCA show Newtonβs Apple?

Digging through an old drive today and found neon sign photos from my first trip to Hong Kong back in February 2005. The sheer amount of neon in the Kowloon area was impressive and gave a unique glow to the streets.
