I think some people hear “grants” and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service.
“Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.

I attempted to awkwardly balance being honest (I like that genre!) with quickly changing the subject. Hard not to feel embarrassed talking to someone who's only social connection is through your kids... Especially a guy!
I was at an event for my kids, chatting with my son's friend's Dad. KU came up - and he complained about how most books were fantasy romance, that he'd pick a book only to get an unwelcome surprise stumbling upon sex scenes.
