Peter out The very first line of the very first recommendation basically summarises everything wrong with the Liberal Party’s last campaign: β€œThe Party must never again allow the Parliamentary Leader and Office to effectively run the campaign.”

Editorial: Fundamentally, the Liberal Party had no vision for the future and made no attempt to guess at one. Nothing it has done since suggests this will change. satpa.pe/c2n5Wsl

Ex-ASIO boss says he's not needed, 'grossly overpaid' for royal commission Former ASIO boss Dennis Richardson says he resigned from the royal commission into antisemitism because he felt he was overpaid and "surplus to requirements".

"when you stripped everything down, I was essentially being employed as a research officer & to lead a team of researchers”

Translation: Given my advice as β€œspecial advisor” was being ignored, I refuse to let my name add legitimacy to this farce of a RC on antisemitism…

Unexpected hero?

Mr Richardson disclosed he was paid $5.5K p/d for his contribution to the inquiry & said he felt he was "grossly overpaid" for the work he was doing.

AU government subsidies to private #FossilFuel corporates now cost $30,000 every minute of every day. Trade unions are against them. Even Fortescue want them cut back & they get them! @albomp.bsky.social & @jimchalmers.bsky.social can help the #Climate & the #Budget. Will they act? #AusPol πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ¨πŸŒ±

While apparently we can't afford to look after Australians, we can afford $1b tax breaks for foreign coal companies.

From the Guardian piece "The office of the federal treasurer, Jim Chalmers, did not respond to questions about the report before publication."

I'll bet.

To the "I didn't vote for this" folks. You voted for a convicted felon. A twice-impeached president. A man found liable for sexual abuse, who tried to overthrow an election. And now gas prices are surging, we're at war, and soldiers are coming home in coffins. This is what you voted for. All of it.

Now feels like a good time to remember that Big Oil is the reason why we're still hooked on dirty, dangerous fossil fuels.

The industry's lies have essentially stolen a generation’s worth of time that we could have used to transition to cleaner, safer energy sources.

It’s time for accountability.

It's fantastic that living writers affected by this are fighting back. But at the risk of sounding like a broken record, had Grammarly stuck to *dead* writers there would be no legal recourse available. Lawmakers need to stop thinking purely in terms of IP rights and start legislating for dignity.

Escaping the tough-on-crime media trap Decades of tough-on-crime rhetoric have narrowed political debate, but safer communities may depend on shifting the conversation toward prevention, accountability and repair.

For decades, β€œtough on crime” rhetoric has dominated political debate.
But overcrowded prisons and growing evidence about what actually reduces offending highlight the language of punishment is failing to deliver safer communities, Jane Anderson writes.

If Republicans made it easy and free to obtain suitable ID, it would be one thing. As it is Republican voter suppression also includes widespread efforts to make it much harder, more time-consuming, and more expensive to obtain ID.

Today's appointment shows the problem with Auckland public transport. It's a 21 minute journey each way by car or a 3:20 round trip using the bus (assuming all the connections are on time which is rarely a given and I don't have to wait 30 minutes for the return leg).

This has to be fixed.

The president has likely known from the start that what he’s doing is illegal - and when the Supreme Court told him to stop, instead of focusing on putting money back in Americans’ pockets, he found new ways to set illegal tariffs. This is un-American.
