Claude cannot actually feel, it can't think, it doesn't have opinions, it isn't self aware, it doesn't have context outside the immediate window you are using it with. By asking for its comment on war crimes you are legitimizing the idea that it can be used autonomously or for war at all. Stop it.

Excellent news: people are fighting back.

The @knightcolumbia.org and @protectdemocracy.org (via @thecoalition.bsky.social) just sued the Trump administration for using visa revocations and deportation threats to silence researchers and academics.

This is how you respond to abuse of power. 🧡

New Lawsuit Challenges Rubio’s Threats Against Foreign Tech Regulators

Marco Rubio is confused about "censorship" and a lot of people inside and outside the United States are paying a high price for it. www.nytimes.com/2026/03/09/u...

These anti-social transition bills have been kicking around for the last couple of years, and since you can't make it illegal for kids to have certain kinds of haircuts, they mostly focus on punishing teachers.

New Lawsuit Challenges Rubio’s Threats Against Foreign Tech Regulators

It's pathetic that the Trump administration thinks it can frame research, regulatory inquiry & content moderation by private companies as censorship. Yet here we are. Good lawsuit to defend free speech principles globally @knightcolumbia.org @protectdemocracy.org: www.nytimes.com/2026/03/09/u...

These States Are Joining in the Push to Ban Surveillance Pricing At least a dozen states are considering legislation.

β€œThe law would ban changes β€œbased on demand or other factors, including through the use of artificial intelligence or an artificial intelligence model that retrains or recalibrates based on received information.”

DHS wants to build a system to surveil Americans’ travel records Previously unreported documents show the agency has asked companies for input. Last year, a similar program was shuttered over public outcry.

β€œThe proposed tool appears to be an attempt to rebuild a surveillance pipeline that was recently shuttered amid public backlash.”

Meta sued over AI smart glasses' privacy concerns, after workers reviewed nudity, sex, and other footage | TechCrunch Lawyers say Meta's marketing materials promised privacy and user control over sharing footage. But an investigation found that subcontractors are reviewing footage from customers' glasses.

That escalated quickly.

Hobby horse of mine is this can be a liberal stance, for the same reason liberals opposed the privileges of nobility. Liberals are used to thinking about an already hardened aristocracy, but we should also act against one crystallizing into place. Oligarchy is aristocracy becoming.

Again, I know it’s disingenuous but at least some of the time it needs to be said that this is bullshit. So I’m saying it. This is bullshit. From the rooter to the rooter.

Anthropic and Alignment Anthropic is in a standoff with the Department of War; while the company’s concerns are legitimate, it position is intolerable and misaligned with reality.

I so disagree with Thompson here, for he does not account for dealing with an authoritarian, fascist regime waging illegal wars. Companies refuse to sell their drugs to states to kill people. If only IG Farben had refused to sell Zyklon B to the Nazis.

[deep sigh] Section 230 doesn’t immunize platforms for violations of federal criminal laws.

I am no friend of platforms. But Section 230 is key to enabling *users’* ability to freely impart and receive information. Look up any number of articles explaining the β€œmoderator’s dilemma.”
