I know 璽 is a jouyou kanji (studied it before) but it's the first time I've seen it used in the wild.

These books are in the 小学校高学年から age range so I thought it'd be light reading that I could breeze through but honestly there were easy parts and some really challenging parts, especially with all the royalty language. And I ran into more rare (to me) kanji than anything I've read in recent memory.

Sadly I didn't always find them enjoyable and the endings were usually unsatisfying. There's WAY too many characters/places/tribes/timeskips/etc and it's hard to stay interested until the main chars were back in it.

I forced myself to do nothing else but read until I finished the 守り人 series. 5 books in 5 weeks. Quite a feat for me. I feel like a much stronger reader now having done it.

I'm SO relieved to tick this off my list. Feels terrific given how long it's loomed over me.

These are the worst to remember for sure. Looking through your list, I realize I have a default phrase in mind attached to many of the ones I do know, like きっぱり断った or うっかり忘れた. So it may help to learn these as phrases or sentences if you don't normally do that.

I can never remember which side is the 目尻 and which side is the 目頭. Where I come from, eyes don't have butts!

I tried to think up a terrible (i.e. good) mnemonic "if it's an innie it's a 目尻" but nope WRONG AGAIN. Back to the drawing board.

Somebody who's good at languages please help. I've been stuck on konnichiwa for 15 years

I want to do it later this year. Still weighing my options but I'm leaning towards GenkiJACS at the moment (for a variety of reasons). I already asked them about the 1-year course and they told me I was too advanced 🥲. Maybe 6 months is more realistic, and it opens up my options too.

I've accepted the fact that I'll never speak Japanese at a competent level without some major intervention, and the best way to do that is likely by going to a language school in Japan for as long as they'll let me. I've been thinking about this for a while now and it may be time to take the plunge.
