I've seen people claim that horse game fans are impossible to please because they demand realism, and I think the reception of Horses of Hoofprint Bay is proving those people wrong. This audience primarily wnats authenticity, not photorealistic graphics
hehe yes I feel validated! don't ask does it look horse, ask does it feel horse
But give people the choice of
a) photorealistic sandbox with almost nothing todo except a pretty horse to ride
b) stylized but well-informed game with authentic horse mechanics and actually satisfying gameplay loop
and well, (obviously full release pending), the steam reviews speak for themselves
I'm not surprised by this and I've been saying it for years, but it's still neat to have such a clear confirmation of it.
And yeah when you ask people if they want games to LOOK realistic, they'll say yes, because almost everyone dreams of a RDR2 level horse game with detailed care & breeding etc
So many people praise Horses of Hoofprint Bay for its "realism" even though it's probably the most visually stylized horse game released this decade. That just goes to show that when people ask for "realistic" horse games, many of them *don't* actually mean UE5 photorealistic graphics at all.
