Coming up with unique encounters for each region was a task Ava and I still talk about as being a terrible endeavor (especially now that we're going to have to do some more for the new regions in TEA issue 03), so I have nothing but respect for your d100 tables (3/3)
But we really wanted them to pull the player in some way and sell more of the setting. The first zine did a lot of vibe setting through these tables, so the quality threshold was a lot higher for them compared to a table with more generic dungeon dressing (2/3)
For me it really depends on the type of table I'm making and what the quality of entries is I'm aiming for. For example the region encounter tables in TEA were a real struggle. I could have easily written those six d20 tables with very similar "bandits ambush the party"-style encounters. (1/3)
How to write a d20 table:
1. write 30 entries
2. either cut the ten weakest entries or add 6 more to make a d66 table
3. profit

It ended up with over 160 different monsters, some of which were suggested by the community!
Filled with a healthy dread at the prospect of having to illustrate this lot ✨
