As the Bomb Cyclone Blizzard moves farther northeast, our NYSM cameras are capturing how much snow fell across NYC!
Our Murray Hill site, part of the NYC Micronet, shows just how quickly the snow piled up as the storm moved through the city.

Not all snow is equal:
Fluffy powder = lots of air
Snowman snow = more water
The SWE sensor measures how much liquid water is in the snowpack β crucial for flood forecasting, water supply & storm tracking.

Did you know we have a snow network?
This is our site in Harrisburg, deep in Tug Hill, NY β one of the snowiest spots in the East thanks to lake-effect off Lake Ontario. Feet upon feet of snow!
That big tube? Itβs a CS725 Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) sensor.
South: rain.
North: snow/rain/sleet roulette.
