CAMARILLA ONE: it's a centuries-old sacred duty that maintains the fragile peace between mortals and the children of caine without which the very fabric of reality would be torn asunder

In context, it comes across as more bored/childish. It's a fidget Cathy does at the dinner table while listening to Edgar and Isabella argue about going to see a hanging.

I've booked my Glasgow Film Festival tickets for this year! I know I have followers who are A) Glasgow-based film lovers but B) not as unhinged about reading 126 film listings as me, so here's a few punt suggestions. General ticket sales go up Monday at 10am, loyalty card sales are open now.

Film title, director, order L-R, top to bottom. One Battle After Another, Paul Thomas Anderson. Sinners, Ryan Coogler. Bugonia, Yorgos Lanthimos. Dying, Matthias Glasner. Fiume O Morte!, Igor Bezinoviฤ. Materialists, Celine Song. Eddington, Ari Aster. Peacock, Bernhard Wenger. Boys Go To Jupiter, Julian Glander. Pillion, Harry Lighton.
Here are my 10 favourite new film releases that I watched in 2025.
In theory very loosely ranked, but One Battle After Another, Sinners and Bugonia are so close for me that I could spend the rest of next year finessing their order in a top 3.

Six books I really enjoyed reading this year!

review of Fiume o morte! (2025)
You can purchase a cherry liqueur called Sangue Morlacco ("Morlacco Blood") with Gabriele D'Annunzio's signature on the front, taken from a letter of praise he sent to the producers. It was renamed as...
If you are at all interested in european history or weird documentaries, I would recommend you try to catch Fiume O Morte if you can - it talks about Gabriele D'Annunzio's brief pre-WW2 occupation of a city in modern day Croatia through locals' recreations of the photographs his media team took.

Allow transgender women and girls back into GirlGuiding UK
As someone whose children were at Girl Guides Scotland, it impressed me that they were so open and welcoming.
To see this change now, because of *one* parent (presumably backed by a bitter GC terf billionaire) is genuinely upsetting.

A stubby little hand holds up the Vintage edition of The Worst Journey in the World.
The first page of The Worst Journey in the World. The iconic first line reads: "Polar exploration is at once the cleanest and most isolated way of having a bad time ever devised."
Embarking on my annual winter tradition of reading about polar explorers while warm and cosy in my house, this time with Apsley Cherry-Garrard's The Worst Journey in the World.
