I do like that reading, bleak as it may seem.
Via literally wakes up screaming because she was afraid to be left alone by Stolas. She doesn't even mention her mother, her dad is clearly the only present parent in her life. Stella seems to only care about Via when it suits her (using her to hurt Stolas). They were never a happy family.
