someone should do a profile of the one guy who left Geese right before they made this last record and, in so doing, became the internationally recognized saviors of rock & roll
This was my favorite comic when I was twelve and I suppose it still is
So, I see what you were going for with the phrase "compliment sandwich" — it's a cool name! I'm not sure it quite fits? Sandwiches are named for the filling, not the bread — it's "ham sandwich," not "rye sandwich.” Maybe "criticism sandwich" would work better? But you gave us a great starting point!

This handy Wikipedia table (using data from 2005, not sure if more recent numbers exist) suggests that the gayest city in America is, unsurprisingly, San Francisco. Washington finishes a very respectable ninth, after those well-known gay meccas Sacramento and Denver en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBTQ_d...
This NYT story, absurdly, refers to Washington as “the gayest city in America.”
If you click the link, the data actually shows that the District of Columbia is the gayest state or state-like entity in America. That's really different!
Shabbat Shalom to everyone who recognizes that the safety, freedom & thriving of Jews and Muslims are bound up together — in Israel & Palestine, across the five boroughs, and in many other beloved places.
Feels like the winning coalition for Democrats is “people who like Mamdani“ and “people who just really fucking hate Andrew Cuomo“
R.I.P. Brian Wilson, one of the 20th century’s great geniuses of writing funny inscriptions on records belonging to Don Henley
"God Only Knows," "Don't Worry Baby," and "In My Room" were all somehow B-sides, at least in the U.S.
One of the happiest things to happen in my lifetime is that SMiLE — the masterpiece lost to madness, the perfect record trapped in a parallel universe, the unmet promise of ’60s pop — is now just a wonderful album that you can listen to whenever you like

Brian Wilson was my friend and my brother in songwriting.
We shared a similar sensibility, as evidenced by his 4 over 5 chord under “Aaaah!” in "Good Vibrations” and mine under "I’m into something good.”
We once discussed who used it first, and in the end we decided it didn’t matter.

You don’t actually look very much like Buddy Holly, you’re just wearing glasses
The thing where you have to avoid someone because you haven’t read their book yet, only it’s the seven-year-old next door and a four-page comic called LIVING LUNCH BOX ATACK!
there's a moment in smarter-than-average zombie movies where it becomes clear that the zombies are threatening but amoral, and that the real villains are the human beings who are responding to the situations created by the zombie outbreak in weak or reprehensible ways

A thing about not being on social media anymore is you sometimes have a thought that one million people have surely already expressed but it’s still new to you. Anyway: “POV” used to mean “Here’s a video from this POV” but now it just means “Here's a video of this thing from an external POV”
The problem with it for me is that in fact there’s only two generations, “people older than you” and “people younger than you,” which is why the burn people address to gen-xers is “ok boomer”
I slightly worry that these are in fact gen x complaints
