If you decide to tidy up, here are some tips:
🌿Wait until daytime temps are consistently above 10C.
🌿Leave some stems still standing on your plants - they can serve as natural bee hotels!
🌿Wait to move leaves (and other things like rocks or logs), if you even clean them up at all.

This is your spring reminder to resist the urge to "tidy up" your pollinator garden! 🐝 Many pollinators are still hibernating under leaves and in stalks; cleaning up now could disturb them before they should be out. So have patience and please wait a bit longer, if you tidy up at all!

🐦 Our feathered friends are beginning to return or pass through on their way to their summer homes. Let's help migrating birds by protecting them on their big journey!

- Lights out! Use sensor lights or turn off the lights at night
- Prevent window strikes with dots or chalk
- Grow native plants!

With winter behind us, we are eagerly anticipating the spring blooms coming our way. Among these, native willows are especially important early bloomers as they offer pollen and nectar for the first pollinators. Willows also serve as a larval host for a wide range of butterflies and moths! πŸ›πŸ¦‹

Instead of calling it a butterfly garden, why don't we call it a Lepidoptera garden? For every species of butterfly, there are 19 species of moths.

Did you know that butterflys are poor pollinators? Moths drive the food web, and do plenty of nighttime pollination. #Nativeplants #DougTallamy #YEG
