Evaluating the demographic impacts of the highly pathogenic avian influenza panzootic Our findings demonstrate that the HPAIV panzootic can cause rapid and long-lasting impacts on the dynamics of long-lived species. This raises major concerns for the conservation and long-term viabili....

Since 2021, HPAI outbreaks have affected unprecedented amounts of bird and mammal species throughout the world.

In a new study @jappliedecology.bsky.social we show how to quantify these demographic impactsโ€”and reveal severe effects on an atypical host: the peregrine falcon.

Peregrine Falcon Populations Under Threat Again Click on the article title to read more.

The Peregrine Falcon is already challenged by persistent and emerging threats. And yet, this week, it could be downlisted to CITES Appendix II, reducing safeguards against commercial trade. We show why this is a bad idea in our new letter @animalconserv.bsky.social

To estimate survival, a key parameter in population dynamics, ecologists use different statistical models to account for imperfect detection of living and dead individuals. M. Schaub and @jaumebadiaboher.bsky.social studied the performance of these models. Read more here: doi.org/10.1002/ece3...

UK maps showing changes in temperatures for typical summer days and hot summer days.

1ยฐC of global warming does NOT mean that heatwaves 'just' get hotter by 1ยฐC.

Over large parts of the UK, global warming means that heatwaves are 3-4ยฐC warmer, with worse consequences for people and ecosystems.

Out now at @ecol-evol.bsky.social, we review different approaches to model mark-recapture data in #Jags and #Nimble, discuss their pros and cons, and compare their speed. We hope it will be useful to researchers willing to learn about CMR and/or speed up their models!

Statistical Rethinking was this book that made a difference in my career. I started my PhD knowing little about stats (as almost every ecologist). The book and the lectures are made in a way one can understand stats from its base and deepen into the world of Bayes. I couldn't recommend them more.

This is the opposite side of the castle in the previous picture. Here three distinct 'towers' cant be see with two sections of building between them. This side of the case appears to only have one entrance and the sections between the towers are covered in thick green foilage with the exception of the 12 windows in each section spread over three floors.

Really nice looking postion open here at SLU Sweden: Professor (fully tenured) in conservation ecology with focus on biodiversity linked to forest management & green infrastructure.

It is also at our Alnarp campus which is...well...rather nice & even has a castle! ๐Ÿงช๐ŸŒŽ
