Iranians being slaughtered by the regime is horrific. Iranian civilians being bombed by the US and Israel is horrific. It’s hard to resist and take back control of your society when an imperialist third party has intervened and is now killing the people who have the ability to implement change -

Trump's kidnapping of Nicolás Maduro did nothing to change the distribution of power in Venezuela. It only put the pieces in place to loot the country of its natural resources for the benefit of elements of the US ruling class.

And now with journalists who are the human equivalent of walking clickbait who try to manufacture a narrative that it can't be real hockey without Russia

And it continues today with Putin's magical exhibition games where he magically scores seven goals and shows the world how "strong and virile" he is, or how Trump proposed a US-Russia hockey game in DC when attempting to earn the love of Vladimir.

Ice hockey has always been a soft (and often not so soft) power tool. It has been an extension of the state for both the Soviet Union and modern-day Russia.

And I find it interesting that a helmet displaying deceased athletes causes an uproar and disqualification, but a hack journalist roaming around the Olympics with a mask of this guy is apparently a non-issue. According to Czech media, the journalist has received a "warning."

There are a few KHL players on the Slovak team, which is a controversial topic. So by asking Slafkovský about his teammate who plays in the KHL (Ružička), this journalist was intentionally trying to be provocative and create a narrative.

There's always something condescending and particularly disrespectful when someone tries to speak Russian with Czechs or Slovaks. This language had no historical or natural usage here and was only imposed in schools and public life in the 20th century due to invasion and subjugation.

To be clear, I don't think there's anything wrong with speaking Russian as a communication tool (of course depending on context and power dynamics). Plenty use it who aren't Russian and I don't want to get into a linguistic purity debate or discuss myths about "suppressed Russian speakers." But -

Which feels extra poignant and disgusting considering it's around the corner from apartment building that was forced to house Nazi officials (at the corner of Bubenská and Veletržní in Praha 7)

You’re right, anti imperialism isn’t just “vibes.” So I’m sure you’ll understand that when faced with Russian imperial threat, those of us in Eastern Europe don’t have much of a choice. There’s plenty wrong with NATO but stop pretending the alternative for us is survivable, you ghoul.

and for people worried about watching a "Russian" documentary, Pasha has asylum here in Prague and has done a number of interviews with Czech media entities where his position on Putin, Russian state, and Ukraine are very clear.
