Predictions regarding Iran are currently little more than wishful thinking. The situation is uniquely complex, and there is (imo at least) a persistent failure in the US to recognize that Iran represents a shift in kind, not just degree, from previous Middle Eastern adversaries.

Yes, this is hilarious, but it's also fascinating how utterly *weak* all these men are. It seems that being a Republican man is just letting the loudest guy in the room humiliate you. Why would anyone want to be this kind of person?

This is actually a pretty big deal. Pay attention to China on this.

I'm so very sorry that this happened to you. I hope you have comfort and care available right now. And I hope the massive hand of Consequence lands on this horrible man and soon.

The Laid-off Scientists and Lawyers Training AI to Steal Their Careers Experienced white-collar workers are now part of a miserable gig economy.

This is why AI "inspiration" - slop outputs fed into new chatbots - creates an near-immediate systemic collapse, and also why tech companies want to turn human creatives into little piggies that do nothing but feed the slop machine, because they *know* it's unique and valuable

And, obviously, someone's going to say "But human writers read and are inspired by other writers" - yes, of course they are, but that blends with human experiences, struggles, sensory inputs and emotions to create *novel* novels. This is where all those previous books came from!!!

This is really where shockingly uncritical tech advocates like Kevin Roose are being key-jangled by the tech companies.

You could do the same test for real vs fake rolexs on the general population, and similarly fail to acknowledge the power of the fake comes from copying the real

The Pentagon is desperate to hide the actual toll of Donald Trump’s Iran War. 30 American service members are sitting in hospital beds right now following the Iranian drone attack in Kuwait. The real cost is devastatingβ€”and they don't want you to see it.

(I honestly thought he'd already left. No one will miss him.)

Howard Schultz was easily the most despised man in Seattle. He sold the Sonics and polled at 0% when he ran for president, lmao. In honor of his departure, here's a cartoon from The Vault featuring "Lil' Howie" the provocatively-shaped union-busting AI device (from Sept 2022)

If they're so worried Dear Leader will lose his shit that they're not wearing his shoes, why don't they just go buy the same brand shoe in their size? He's not going to notice as long as it looks right.

None of them, not even Trump, realizes that this is an intelligence test.

And they all failed.

I've been trying to tell people about this for months. Go on LinkedIn and search jobs for "AI". Dozens of ads for AI training in any profession. Salaries higher than you can make in the profession.

Can't make a living writing? Here's $40/hour to teach AI the craft you've spent a lifetime building.

Are we sure she wasn't simply trying to be a supermodel with her new glam? πŸ˜‰

(None of our GSDs have *loved* baths, but they somehow all loved prancing around being pretty afterwards.)

This is part of a pattern I've started to notice: There are people out there who are loudly committed to off-loading their work to chatbots and come seeking my validation for their position.

And on that note: If you get something with chips, you will be served more chips than any single human being could possibly eat. And the fish fillets in fish & chips were the size of my head. (This was also true in Ireland.)

I had a lot of excellent food in Scotland, and that was with realizing that fried potatoes are my MCAS trigger (which I realized BECAUSE Scotland). My spouse still gets moony about Scottish breakfasts.

It does not. Wet is the more urgent issue, though it will likely be fairly chilly as well. But certainly not Iceland cold.

Both of the options here are human writers. The first option is unprocessed human writing and the second option is human writing run through a language model to reproduce the same outputs with different words

If it couldn't have existed without training data, it isn't creating anything at all.

Dems score upset win in New Hampshire special election, giving GOP fresh reason to worry The more Democrats win closely watched races, the more Republicans should be concerned about the 2026 midterms.

Dems just scored an upset win in a New Hampshire special election:

Democrat Bobbi Boudman won the special election for Carroll County District 7, defeating Republican Dale Fincher 51-47% in a district that voted Republican by more than 13 points just 16 months ago.

(We are also dealing with an expensive plumbing issue that will require tearing a wall open, and a separate water-line issue that isn’t on us but has a lot of complicated scheduling & excavation work involved. Plus business and general life requirements. It’s been a challenging week.)

That was just for Torchy, to be clear. Effie is, shall we say, robustly healthy, and not currently in need of dental work; we’ll get her tests done when we’re not dealing with 15 other things, but I’m not overly concerned for her, esp when she & her sister have been together their entire lives.
