In my area particularly there is something in the drug supply that absolutely wrecks people’s kidneys, and then patients with any kind of substance use history have a hard time getting consistent dialysis…it’s a whole nasty cycle and I really want to know if anyone is doing research on it.
Another anecdata point from my work in a hospital hard-hit by the opioid crisis; unsafe supply leads lots of users to have other serious medical complications. Widespread narcan may prevent acute overdoses, but folks still die from other drug complications at astounding rates.
