This is a tight very short story.
I like it. Just the right twist to it. Its about something.
Yeah, i dig this.

Yay?
I’m not clued in but my full understanding isn’t required
Condolences and i hope things get better.
Here’s the thing: kidnapping people, blowing up a school, there are all things the guys with guns standing next to the people authorizing this stuff have the power to stop.
Instead, military blew up a school with kids in it. The secret service guard a rapist.
No one in government is stopping this

Well, on the plus side, you don’t need to follow them anymore. Or hear from them.
Mute and unfollow.
Feels way more scammy that they hammed up to you, got the sale, and then ghosted.
Heck, block those chuckleheads
This feels like how it should play out.
If i knew you bought my book, dropping you feels rude.
Alex Rune sees The Man in the Iron Mask as aspirational on persistence.
A good plan. Subtle setup, and you too can pop up years later with a massive comeuppance on the villain who wronged you in fourth grade.
Okay, maybe not that pettily applied

How persistent/determined/stubborn is your character?
Do they pursue their goals long past the point of reason? Give up too easily? Strike a balance?
Does it depend what they are trying to do?

This feels on brand for a one-eyed seeker of knowledge and manipulator of situations to his advantage in order to curtail pending doom.
Totally not symbolic or anything mythically metaphorical
pass the word
This. Larian better follows the spirit of what made Bioware back in the day
Alex Rune: hang on, all the bad stuff that’s happened to me is made up?
Even the Tree?
Oh wait, no one but you knows about the Tree. Or any other secrets that I’ve kept.
Be a shame if they came out, huh? Like it one more bad thing happens to me or mine.
How’s that for dramatic tension

Silly hypothetical for those of us who feel we torment our characters a bit!
Your characters have broken the fourth wall and know you are responsible for everything that happens to them.
How do they react?

Thank you, Gabino! I’d like to point to my collection of the good, the bad, and the ugly: Fruitless Bodies Annotated. I take my reader along a bumpy ride of my first publications in small press rags to finding my voice through experiments in genre and form, each with personal insights.

Truer than ever as of today.
I like happy endings
But i don’t seem to like writing them
My stories tend to end bittersweet. Victory, but a price.
Like them hobbits ain’t as happy when they get home. They took a mortgage on the world to be saved and are making payments for the rest of us

Technical question!
Do you prefer to write happy endings for your characters?
Or would you rather some tragedy?
Be as general as you like, to avoid spoilers! But as a writer, which captures you more often?
