Ploidy, estimated for each individual with nQuack, mapped on the phylogenetic tree of Inga. The ASTRAL phylogenetic tree was inferred by previous work (Schley et al., 2025) based on 1305 loci from the Mimobaits target bait capture set and contains a single accession per species.

@chukwumaemma.bsky.social Research explores an approach to clarify the phylo relationship & evol history of Alectra. Using seqdata with morph, habitat & climate traits, it aims to reveal diversification, adaptation & future ranges w/implications for conservation & understanding parasitic plant evol.
Thursdayβs dinner will showcase UArk Herbarium/Prairie Pedagogy Pop-up Exhibition. It will highlight the UArk Herbarium support for educational and artistic work happening in the Oak Knoll Prairie. Artworks by Caite Ramos, Ellie Johnson, Mikki Young, Peter Brown, Mia Dixon, Kaylee Hutto and more!
@phylojennatics.bsky.social research focuses on macro and micro forces that can influence species abundance in Silene. She is using herbarium specimen data to build a genus phylogeny. Jenna successfully extracted DNA from a specimen from 1892!
Why is it important to press native plants? Find out on Nov 8th at the Fayetteville Public Library! @phylojennatics.bsky.social a PhD student in @maribethlatvis.bsky.social lab will be leading this event! See you there π±
Fieldwork highlights from Italy: to understand what a species is PhD student @rlsavage.bsky.social is taking a integrative approach using morphological, genomic & ecological data to determine what a species is in Rhinanthus
@maribethlatvis.bsky.social and Emily Carter helped with the fieldwork

Masterβs student @arisaemaguy.bsky.social focuses on the Arisaema triphyllum species complex. It has been subject to numerous taxonomic revisions over the past 200 yrs. Morgan is utilizing morphometrics, on both the macro & micro scales, to help herbaria distinguish between the species.
If you are or you know people on an #H1B, get in touch with your U international office to get guidance and know what you/they should/should not be doing.
I just received the information below from #AAUP. Feel free to share and check in with your immigrant friends/colleagues. They are not doing ok.
Fieldwork in Brazil to understand how new plant species evolve? Pedro Pezzi @pedropezzi.bsky.social and Maribeth Latvis @maribethlatvis.bsky.social are taking a multi-pronged approach in Agalinis to understand morphological shifts and species interactions during rapid diversification
THRILLED to announce that my NSF "Closing the gap: The history of river connections with the formation of the isthmus of Panama and its impact on the evolution of plants in rivers" in collab w/Carlos Jaramillo at STRI and Caroline StrΓΆmberg at UW was awarded! In today's Poetry Clinic, I address the question of how to carry forest's quiet with us. For me, the best approach is writing: note-taking while I am in the forest quiets my mind, writing up the notes afterwards seals the memories.

Congratulations to the 2025 SHC Student Awardees! Undergrad Andrew Ruegsegger with Dr. Maribeth Latvis at U of Arkansas studying βPlant community assembly in an insular grassland biodiversity hotspot: microbial and environmental effects on phylogenetic and functional diversity of Ozark glades".
We were thrilled to host a series of Kaleidoscope Science events! We used screen printing as a medium to explore how multiple layers combine to enhance our understanding of biodiversity.
We printed Agalinis fasciculata!

Congratulations to the NSF GRFP awardees! This was an especially competitive year because the number of awardees was down by 51%.
To the students who didn't get it: my heart goes out to you. This was an especially competitive year. I hope this doesn't deter you from research.
If a student you know received an honorable mention for the NSF GRFP, encourage them to contact their Congressional representatives! π§ͺ
