How do we do more with biodiversity data we've already collected?

I gave a TED Talk on scientific discovery in ecological databases at a joint TED Countdown and Bezos Earth Fund event for #NYClimateWeek this year, and it's now live!

I keep seeing these @ourworldindata.org posts with weird, convoluted visualizations or phrasing.

Researcher: "Please tell me whether you think homosexuality can always be justified, never be justified, or something in between."
Interviewed: "4"

I assume I know what they mean, but wtf.

Important message, but it took me a while to understand the chart. It clicked when I finally realized that this should never have been a pie chart. The point is basically "2% of something is not a lot", but we're not talking about some total being divided between two groups.

#computer vision #ai #insect #pollinators #vectors A wonderful MC and WG meeting with the InsectAIers at a beautiful venue in Albania. Demonstrations of newly developed camera traps for pollinators but also vectors. Fruitful discussions and new ideas! Many thanks to our host Anila Paparisto!

Twenty Lessons, read by John Lithgow Key selections from On Tyranny, for viewing and sharing

Here is my best guidance for action, rendered beautifully by the great John Lithgow. I first published these lessons more than eight years ago, in late 2016. They open the twenty chapters of "On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century."
