Yeah, it might. Pi-hole acts as a DNS server. In older versions (as well as newer versions if configured this way) when it gets a request for adserver.example.com, it will report that the site's IP address is Pi-hole's own (local) address rather than the real one, which diverts follow-on traffic.
It's not necessarily the website. If this is a work computer, your company may have installed security software that intercepts and rewrites network traffic, and one side effect of the rewriting is that your web browser thinks some traffic is local when it's not.
