I don't think grammarly should just get to do "sorry deleting now" after ventriloquizing living and dead people without their consent to make money

Not much to add when it comes to everything else BUT the freelancing thing... Idk how long you've been at it, but the first couple of years are pretty awful for most people. It does get way, way better once you become even just a bit more established. Hang in there! π«
I really can't wait to see how big the lawsuit against grammarly gets and I hope the plaintiffs sue them into complete and fundamental nonexistence. Like, "the company has to scrap their code rather than sell it as assets, and then also dissolve" nonexistence.
Anyway, today is a great day to uninstall Grammarly and go for a lovely walk.
But if you use it for everything it's like... literally why should anyone hire you???
I don't like AI in general for lots of reasons, but I think there's OK uses of (non-generative) AI, like transcribing an interview (which you then edit), maybe formatting a list of references (not that I'd personally trust it with this bc hallucinations), etc.
It's just such a disservice to clients imo. And I don't want to normalize incompetence like that, idc at this point if that sounds harsh.
Might I humbly suggest a different career if you want to outsource every key element of editorial work to the plagiarism machine instead of, you know, doing it yourself as you are being paid to do? Clients have access to these tools too, literally why would anyone hire you?? π I sure wouldn't
This is how I picture you sitting through these workshops and presentations lmao
Me when LLM-mommy only spoonfeeds me my slop but doesn't also pretend it's an airplane while doing so π€π‘π
Honestly if a CE is unable to use the search function in CMOS to the point that they need to outsource that to an LLM as their default, I'm just gonna come out and say it, they're probably not a very good CE. Being good at searches (in a MS, style guides and style sheets) is a *big* part of the job.
The "hexagram of the heavens / strings of my guitar" line in Amelia never fails to hit the spot π―
My followers will be amazed to hear that I'm listening to Joni Mitchell rn (Hejira)
cannot stress enough that "separate the art from the artist" was meant for private individuals reconciling the art they love with its flawed creators and not meant for the ceo of a company driving a dump truck of money up to a bigot's front porch

Almost 10,000 authors have come together to publish an empty book protesting the theft of books by tech companies to train AI models.
Titled Donβt Steal This Book, it is empty of text except the names of the authors involved.. π§΅
A huge part of the pushback to "AI" is how the it is fundamentally built, both financially and culturally, on violation of consent. And the people in charge are either the most obliviously shitty consent-violators on the planet or knowingly shitty shitheads. Those are the only two options.
"Would you like to opt out of having your identity stolen for our profit?" these freaks.... JAIL
If you've switched from #ChatGPT to #Claude:
To strike 1,000 targets in the first 24 hours of itsΒ attack on Iran, the U.S. military used Maven Smart System, which is powered by Claude.
The military will continue using Claude as it waits for a replacement.

What authors and publishers pay editors for in a developmental edit is literally their time and expert analysis. If a developmental editor is charging you money to offload that work onto an LLM, you are quite actually being scammed.
Sorry I was so annoyed I became shittier at my job x2 lmao
Ugh I've been so out of the loop I didn't know about these new grifts from the usual suspects. I really shouldn't be surprised, and yet . . .
You know what, no, I will not be "upskilling" by becoming shittier at my job using environmentally destructive technology built on stolen work and made by some of the worst people on the planet + literally being used to kill children already just to become shittier at my job.
Yeah and literally same goes for any type of editorial work tbh!
God I'd be so pissed off if I paid $$$ for a dev edit (they're not cheap! and for good reason!) and the editor just ran my work through the plagiarism machine, it's not even funny. Authors, ask any prospective editors if and how they use AI in their editorial work! You might be getting ripped off!
Kudos to you for trying. Wish I could say I was surprised by the response. Great times to "not talk about politics"!
Honestly kind of impressed by the mess authors manage to make sometimes tbh... they prob don't even realize half the time π
Just spent thirty (30) min dealing with one (1) reference and trying to make sense of wtf was happening I am actually so mad at myself lmao
Surely more AI is the solution to the world's problems, no? π€
"Wow, I'm just breezing through this MS!" Yes, by not dealing with any of the issues that take more than 5 seconds to fix. Great strategy!!!!! CAN'T WAIT TO TACKLE THEM ALL AT ONCE NOW!
Did that thing where, instead of dealing with them as you go, you leave all the thorny issues in a MS for later. I am now done going through the MS once and have about 70 "uh oh, deal with this later" comments to myself. Ask me how present me is feeling about past me. π #AmEditing
