I love a city with a z-axis, with winding ascents punctuated with steep alleys. London has this in places; Edinburgh and Newcastle especially so; SF of course. If the landscape won’t provide, give me platforms and walkways and tunnels.
Having been lucky enough to stay with dear friends in the Barbican I got time to explore it properly, and I think the key to its greatness is how it builds in the verticality of great cities in miniature.
