If anyone sees this, I strongly hope you'll consider checking out their website and reading about the insanely influential work theyve done over the years, because even if you disagree with some of it, there is a lot there that is objectively foundational to modern conversation movements everywhere.
This is the industry I've spent over half my life doing Advocacy and real on the ground work in, and to see what is potentially the largest blessing we've ever seen staring down the barrel of a financial gun... it hurts, and if they cannot win this, the future will be even more uncertain.
Without Greenpeace, the world would be much worse off than we are today, because for years they have spearheaded some of ths most influential litigation that many movements have ever seen, and direct support from Greenpeace legal teams was somewhat viewed as an ace in the pocket.
I personally have a lot of issues with Greenpeace, in fact I think that in some aspects they've held back some conservation movements, but that is inevitable when act as the united global front for a cause that goes against the largest capital holders in the world.
Personal anecdote, but I have never met a conservationist who wouldn't trudge through the pits of hell to get Greenpeace support/backing, they are absolute titans in their ability to fight legal cases and pull resources to reinforce entire movements.
Greenpeace has never had a whole lot of "power" in its capital, but their teams, legal and otherwise, over the past 50 years have laid the most stable foundations that Environmental conservation movements across the entire world have ever seen.
Greenpeace has directly said that they cannot pay this sum by any means, which is something I back up, because with my experience working in conservation spheres, I've seen what kind of margins they run on, and to say that they're tight is an understatement.
The judge ruling on the case of Energy Transfer v. Several Greenpeace entities, has stated that he will order Greenpeace to pay damages amounting to potentially $345 million from Greenpeace alone. This case will most likely be appealed to the North Dakota Supreme Court from both parties.
Unfortunately unable to do a well thought out or extremely detailed write-up for this today, but I feel like this is a decent start to any sort of Environmental Advocacy/conservation News posting i may do here.
