Blue, orange, and white bird perched on a wire.
I was thrilled to see an eastern bluebird in a Toronto ravine this morning β the first in many years. I almost didnβt photograph this one because in the light it looked like a junco. Some instinct prevailed β¦ #Birds

Gas prices jumped again this morning and are on track to double - a stark reminder of our exposure to fossil fuel volatility.
The real solution isnβt more drilling, but moving away from combustion: electrify, use renewable power, and boost energy efficiency.

During periods of seasonal bird migration, βliveβ migration maps show where nocturnal bird migration is occurring as detected by the U.S. weather surveillance radar network between local sunset to sunrise in near real-time. The maps show how many birds are present and in what direction they are moving.
Radars in mountainous areas (e.g. the Rockies) may be located on high mountain tops that restrict radar coverage, providing the appearance of no migration where migration may be occurring.
Please note that all graphics are relative to the Eastern time zone. Data are only presented for the contiguous U.S.
More Information: https://birdcast.org/migration-tools/live-migration-maps/.
Itβs spring migration! And BirdCast is live with 4 tools to follow the action.
(1) During seasonal bird migration, BirdCastβs LIVE MIGRATION MAPS show where nocturnal bird migration is occurring in near real-time (example below).

This is Mason Lake on Rte30 in the #Adirondacks. We passed it so many times going back and forth to our camp and finally stopped to get a photo so I could paint it.

Oh, thatβs a shame. I donβt see many in Toronto, but they are here β again, mostly in the ravines.

Yes! And yet they are more fun to watch than the grey ones, the way they zip around the canopy :)

Grey squirrels definitely seem bolder. Iβm glad red squirrel populations persist β if diminished. All the more reason to keep wooded areas! Interesting to hear that about NS. Iβve seen only red squirrels in Newfoundland and wonder if the same thing will happen, or if water will be barrier enough.

Photo of two coyotes behind tall reeds. One is curled up, asleep on the snow. The other is standing behind the sleeper, looking towards the camera. The reeds conceal most of the detail.
Iβm not sure if this is a pair or a parent and last yearβs pup. I was a long way off β 500mm lens with 1.4 extender lens, and very cropped β but Iβm pretty sure at least one of them knew I was there, judging by the eye β¦ #coyotes #torontowildlife

Unfinished coloured pencil drawing of a squirrel balancing on a branch with a large tree trunk in the background.
I love watching, and drawing, red squirrels. They are so lively! You can find them in Toronto but less often in streets or backyards, where the larger grey/black squirrels prevail; red squirrels inhabit the ravine :) #SciArt #WildlifeArt

This is outrageous. My dual nationality husband and kids canβt visit their own UK family without paying more than I would pay for an ETA as a non-UK national. How on earth does the government justify the cost of the certificate? Because it looks like a cash grab to me.

So, public libraries pay money to publishers (and thence authors) for books they buy, we all know this and it's great!
But in many countries, Canada among them, authors of that country also get compensated for their book being in public libraries via the public lending right
