Would absolutely devour a series of mystery books featuring a lightly fictionalized Gordon Brown analogue about a former UK Prime Minister who goes about solving crimes based on archival research and their international network of connections.
Title: "Literary ecologists celebrate the successful reintroduction of rare species to the Yorkshire moors." Young, carefree Cathy and heathcliff 3. Sexy Hollywood Cathy and Heathcliff 5. Ghost Cathy, tormented Heathcliff 5. Spooky tree

A large Regency house. Two sisters named Emilia and Charlotte talk on an upper floor. "Mister Blackwell has come to call again." says Emilia as she looks out of the window "Oh, how I despise his uncouth manners and electric bicycle!" Charlotte says "Sister, you will end up a spinster if you insist on a historically accurate suitor." and continues "The romance novel has changed, Emilia, and so must we." Emilia replies "Easy for you to say. You are engaged to the richest werewolf in the county!" They are walking through the house. Charlotte says "Look at Cousin Lucy: She is quite plain, yet made a most advantageous match with the dragon queen of nalthrax." "True." says Emilia opening the door. The tall, solid figure of Miuster Blackwell stands at the door wearing a top hat and tailcoat: "Ladies, I triumphed In my ice hockey match and won ten thousand a year in sponsorship! Miss Emilia, will you be my bride?" he is holding a hockey stick. Emilia swoons into Charlotte's arms.

Hope your glumness dissipates too.
You are awesome and work in one of Londonโs most iconic buildings. Nothing is as glamorous in real life as in our imaginings but when I go to evensong as an occasional attender I do think โAnnaโs in charge of all their books up that winding staircaseโ!
Theyโre not. Youโre comparing your inside knowledge of yourself with wha they show to the world.
e.g. I have a stinking cold but my Instagram is all about the books Iโm reading / listening to. I donโt mention the stinking cold or the Friday night plans Iโve had to cancel so not to spread the germs
The study points to using libraries and visiting museums as bringing these enormous brain health benefits ... who would have thought? Well, librarians and museum folk for a start ... www.theguardian.com/society/2026...
Itโs hard to compare because our reactions to being barked at vary according to who is doing it, our past history (with them and other people), the importance of the thing weโre being told to (not) do.
The issue is you experience being controlled / coerced. Personally Iโd chat to my GP about it.
Fantastic, thanks for sharing. It's not officially out till next Thursday but from some reason Gardners (wholesalers) sent everything after the arse end of last week, not that me or @ortacpress.bsky.social are complaining about people being able to #GetKeshed early!
๐ @stuhennigan.bsky.social You were on the shelf at Bookseller Crow already! They said this is the second copy theyโve sold. (I think O picked up their last copy but they are ordering more).
One of the Lewis Chessmen - currently on display at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. Found in 1831 on a beach at Uig on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, the Chessmen dates to the late 12th or early 13th century. ๐ธ My own. #FindsFriday #LewisChessmen #NMS
Big up David for organising this. Dunno how many folk came but there looked to be bloody loads from where i was sitting. Cheers to all who came and to my dark soul sister @regretteruane.bsky.social for interviewing us.
Really proud of @fechtbuch.bsky.social โs latest professional achievement: heโs one of the reviewers for this yearโs Wilbur Smith Adventure Writing Award.
Itโs one of his favourite genres (nature writing and SFF being the others), so a real joy for him to see some of its very best new books ๐

Hannah Arendt did not mince words, did she?
'Totalitarianism replaces all first-rate talents with crackpots and fools whose lack of intelligence and creativity is still the best guarantee of their loyalty.'
From "The Origins of Totalitarianism" (1951)
title: The Writer in January Panel 1. โA short stroll...โ says the writer aleaving the house. The sun has begun to peek over the horizon. Panel 2. โThen back to my desk for a good day's writing in the winter sun.โ The sun has risen a little higher. Panel 3. โSurely it's not going down yet?โ The sun is indeed on its way down. Panel 4. โPerhaps I'll catch the last rays.โ Says the writer breaking into a sprint. Panel 5. The writer is back at home sitting at a desk saying โDamn!โ. The sun is gone. The sky is gloomy.
