My first Mac in 2005 was the brand new Mac mini because it cost $499. Price is important.

If I was an iPhone user and needed a new laptop the Neo’s $599 price would grab my attention.

You beat me to it, but the ‘great first time Mac and solid secondary computer’ is an ideal elevator pitch for who the Neo is for. Great write up

Seems obvious in hindsight but seeing it confirmed that it’s not really a technical issue and just on purely differentiation feels like new clarity for the Air and Pro iPads

What’s really struck me about the iPad Air M4 is overlap in timing of the Neo.

It really elevates the Air iPad line to see it with an M-series chip and a new laptop with an A-series one. I guess, low-end devices get A and mid to high end get M?

The reason I think the same chip will be in the iPad and this one is because with a keyboard accessory, the base iPad and the base MacBook would come out to the same price. Do you want a tablet or a laptop?

🔹 A18 Pro (same as new iPad)
🔹 Under 2.3lbs / under 13in display

I think they rev this device like clockwork each year to put the 18mon old iPhone chip in it—one way they get the cost savings for it.
