If you're into physical media there's a fine Blu Ray from Full Moon of the original Italian version, it's great fun!

Island of the Fishmen. 1979. Like Jules Verne and H G Wells had a crazy Italian lovechild. Dodge the US hack job and it delivers the monstrous Martino fun.

It's worth the revisit. I saw this and the original at the cinema, the rest came later when I bought the Blu Ray boxset. Generally not a fan of franchise, but this is a great one.

Exactly, it's hardly Citizen Kane (thankfully, this is much more fun) but it nails the entertainment brief. Low budget schlock of the finest calibre.

These things do have a habit of turning up at the back of an old warehouse somewhere, but they often take years so it probably won't happen in my lifetime. To be fair, hours of film are shot for everything prior to editing and they're usually unused for a reason. Would be a fascinating find though.

I agree, he's such an underrated director with so many great titles under his belt. Psychomania is a 70s classic...
