Love this. It’s not about getting closer to nature. It’s about accepting we ARE nature. open.substack.com/pub/jamesluc...

I do hope you’re going to Munchmuseet, young man.
When we visited Stockholm a while back, each lift in the hotel played a different Abba song, and I insisted on waiting for the one that played The Day Before You Came. That's how much I love this song. And I think Pulp just made the definitive version.
Ohhh amazing. And what a song - and still so strange that it wasn’t on The Visitors which is ace. One day I will write a 200,000-word Knausgaard-type novel based on this song.
Can you start a Cultural Snow subreddit or something? I always enjoy the posts but would love somewhere to talk about them that’s a bit livelier than Blogger.
Yes! I enjoyed your Cultural Snow blog on that - and also the one on Uncut (although I was expecting the twist would be the Hopkins soundtrack got 10/10 and it was next to a full-page ad). Also, you called him Jon Wilding and not Jon Hopkins but I can see why.
Looks great. I’m there. Thanks for the recommendation. :)
DOLLIES
My family are shit at getting ready - used to get annoyed and shout. Now I have a todo list and get small jobs done in the time between us supposed to be leaving and us actually leaving. Today I shaved my balls before a dog walk.
Yeah, that’s horrible and tabloidy. Like ‘butchered’.
To paraphrase Jeremy Hardy, his grave will become a urinal for right-thinking people everywhere.
Seriously just starve this narcissist of attention.
Nailed it. Narcissists don’t care if the attention is positive or negative, as long as they get it.
Wow. I love the way the music shifts around, mirroring the story - curious, delirious, tense, crestfallen. Great find!

On a darker note… Holy shit.
This is one of those books I don’t want to end. I want the 6-episode documentary version, the podcast remake, the limited edition cassette with 151 extra tracks. It’s a flawless tribute to Richey’s epigram (‘music and words came first’). Bravo @keithcameron2.bsky.social 🙂 #manicstreetpreachers
Yes! The best stink bomb trick was to burst one on a shopping centre escalator so the stench just kept travelling around and around. Optimal emanation.
I know what you mean but some things just catch you. And he sort of rewrote it with Late Night, Maudlin Street which is a monster.
Phew. Nicely done! But I’d put in a strong shout for Back To The Old House (acoustic from HoH). It’s a bit soppy yeah but that acoustic guitar is gorgeous, and that line still catches me - ‘When you cycled by/Here began all my dreams/The saddest thing I’ve ever seen’.
He never really knew what drugs weEre.
Ohhhh yes. Quite a joy to get two iconic football moments in the space of four days. (Along with Rio).
Finally, one of the weirdest music TV clips - as discussed in our episode with @simonprice.bsky.social - has resurfaced.
Gary Numan on Jim'll Fix doing Music For Chameleons while a haunted child circled him slowly in an electric car with torches for headlights.

"Soon the Beatles will pass from living memory, and everything they did for the post-war world will seem obscure and irrelevant, having to be explained to children like the jokes in Shakespeare."
Wow. Taylor Parkes never misses. This is great.

Nice. :) The RedMen TV live-watch is a beauty. (“He’s a child and he’s scored the winner!”)

Bravo, sir! I want to have your babies for this. I’m sure Mr Neil K would approve too…
Thanks for the review @sandramangan.bsky.social Glad you enjoyed it. :)
