Ok but if a dog told you that a half eaten slice of pizza someone had dropped on the sidewalk “still looked pretty good,” I dunno, that seems like it might be solid advice
this thought has crossed my mind (thankfully it's a different email so the responses weren't buried by all this dogshit)
It is genuinely doing a heroic job against an unstoppable adversary
(NB: that 5-7 emails a minute figure only refers to what's getting past the spam filters; my spam folder has accrued 13,000 emails in the past 12 hours.)
Still getting, on average, 5-7 emails a minute, so I am still living in a weird, extremely annoying hell.
I know y'all find it annoying to fill out a captcha before signing up for something, but rest assured I have been added to every single newsletter in the world that doesn't have one.
this day is too stupid, throw the whole day in the trash
they're all random mailing lists, from any number of unsecure sign-up pages that don't require capcha tests.
he had a good run
Noted beauty and intellectual Colin Dickey has died at the age 34 from keeping it too real
nah, it's cool, now it's time for the posthumous half-finished things to be churned out to try and squeeze as much money as possible out of the estate
done!
Attention spammers, international crime syndicates, and maybe that one asshole ex:
Colin Dickey is dead. RIP Colin Dickey.
I don't really think I have any enemies who hate me that much? I'm assuming it's some sort of phishing attack (it's automated, and any enemies I have are not smart enough for that). But it is the opposite of fun.
not sure I understand what you mean?
I usually have 15-30 new emails in my Hotmail account when I wake up. This morning I have 779, with another 7,000 in my spam folder--all malicious newsletter sign-ups and other nonsense.
Been a fun morning.
the “better fash than cringe” reaction has been one of the more significant and widespread poisons of the last decade
Anyone have any experience in dealing with a subscription bombing attack?
Bluesky has the juice
Whafuck!! So glad you are safe and away from him and all of these guns
Space Ghost Coast to Coast, "Girlie Show" episode, where he's at his desk with a screen that says "Women in the Entertainment Industry"
Happy International Women's Day
The bland obsequiousness of AI has really become a hallmark of its style and the easiest tell for me. Far more so than any em dash use or whatever, it's just the ubiquitous adjectives about how great the subject matter is, like one of Trump's cabinet members giving him a summary.
sometimes I like to wrap myself up in the page
"You want my fuck-palace-in-the-sky? Come and take it."
Which is to say I don't think we're at Caeusescu's Romania just yet, but I do think the attempt to create a national program of gaslighting is the intention here
For the Romania that began to be history at Christmas 1989 was a made-up place, the lunatic creation of two deluded monsters and their craven, fawning followers. It was the distinguished Romanian essayist and novelist Norman Manea who pointed out in his important book On Clowns that it was Causescu's rare achievement to present himself as a pillar of benevolent sanity in a country where the ungrateful were deemed mad. In fact, as I can attest, the writers and teachers and actors I met in the months before the revolution all used the word about themselves. "He makes us all think we are mad," they said, with varying degrees of irony, "because that's the way he wants it."
This passage from Paul Bailey’s foreword to Herta Müller’s The Passport not *not* resonating with me this morning
Never have been able to make it more than 30 minutes. It is just colossally *not my thing*
This day isn’t great because there is one less hour for It to Happen
THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!
This doesn’t track with my memories of AWP either, I never told anyone there I was pregnant
