So, the journey from appreciated justice advocate to callous asshole can be remarkably short. While miller was always a minimizer asshole, how easily he cowed Jon and @jonfavs.bsky.social into joining in ostracizing of the covid vulnerable was, well, disappointing.

Social media in 2025 is such an egregiously one-sided version of “social” that unfortunately tends to mimic offline life in many ways. Kinda almost totally over it. Long-form is where it’s at. At least I learn something.

Excellent thread. Right to the end. I was also forced to leave work I *loved* in 2020 because of society's refusal to protect. It is absolutely ridiculous how universally this has been swept under the rug despite concrete evidence of the harm this is doing to everyone's bodies.

It's not like we were born with an innate understanding of N95 masks and airborne transmission. Many of us put in the intellectual effort to understand it, starting in 2020. You don't need a medical degree to understand this stuff. It has been explained, and explained, and explained.

CBS firing most of its climate team is another very, very important reminder that there needs to be a massive effort to set up cleanly-funded media outlets immune to takeover, to avoid those fired jumping into the Substack bonfire where they'll be exploited and enshittified in a new way

This cycle is really, really bad and Substack really sits at the centre of it all

I've largely given up trying. Been pinging progressive writers (on my professional tech acct) there offering to help with the migration to one of the MANY alternatives and none even acknowledge. They're quite happy ignoring funding that stuff and mass hypocrisy involved with their messaging.

Why I moved off that hellsite ages ago. Substack literally partnered with Bari, promoted them and helped them out with special features. Paid newsletters helps fund fascist ideology. And no progressive writers giving them funding seem to give any craps about helping them continue promoting fascism.
