Wow. While we wait for the few remaining ballots to be counted, we feel like we have won this race. The recent drop put us nearly 1,400 votes ahead, just under the .5 percent threshold for a mandatory recount.

Girmay Zahilay defeated fellow King County Councilmember Claudia Balducci. Zahilay's lead grew through the week and on Friday Balducci conceded.

King county is counting ballots much more slowly than normal this year, so we didn't quite see the bump we were hoping for today. but it's still good news. there are still about 100,000 ballots to be counted. King County elections confirmed to me that so far they’ve only counted ballots up to those submitted Monday or early on Election Day, and none from drop boxes. Wednesday reflects basically a wrap up of what they started counting Tuesday.
