Johnson Program | Medieval Institute | Western Michigan University

For those finishing their PhDs and looking towards their book, I'd really recommend this program. I was one of the fellows this year and it is very, very informative about how to shape the proposal and revise for your first book! #medievalsky

Meanwhile, Spain's massive investment in renewables is paying dividends now: with prices for Spanish industry and consumers low and stable compared with other European economies.

Remember the last time gas prices were super high and places started tacking on "delivery fees" that never went away? Can't wait to see round 2 of that

Seeing ppl circulate projects whose NEH grants were canceled by DOGE reaffirms my argument about AI as a permission structure. Some grants were canceled w/o a โ€œnoโ€ from the generated summary. DOGE had a mandate to slash humanities funding & AI gave them the veneer of a rationale for their actions.

When we did writing workshops for grad students I often found it more useful when something was more unpolished. Its way easier to engage with it at that stage than a "finished" project

What is an Academic Field? Some Positive Reflections Hello! I received my PhD in Medieval History in May 2025 and am using my expertise to educate interested people in the Middle Ages and the process of creating history. Subscribing as either a free or ...

Things in the academic world (and elsewhere) are pretty grim currently. I wanted to write something a bit more positive, and personal, about what an academic field can be. Partially inspired by a moment of existential terror when I opened a journal and didn't recognize any of the names. #medievalsky
