Based on how people reacted to my talks years ago...this is unsurprising.
CPL routinely, it seems, disregards actual human experience, for whatever bullshot their leadership has latched onto.
A culture of chasing the in thing, whilst disregarding people with expertise, or legitimate capability.
$50 an hour for a Sloperator?
How about you hire real artists instead?

Calgary folks. Call the library and stop this nonsense. #yyc

this is a kind thing to say ☺️
Article 5 The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised by Artile 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area. Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security.
"such action as it deems necessary" lot of off ramps in the NATO treaty, not the least being Article 7, which says we don't have to violate our UN obligations. what if a Prime Minister with courage said "it's actually necessary not to escalate things, we're assisting by sitting on our damn thumbs"
If I were Prime Minister of Canada I would simply rule out participation in an illegal war.

Thumbnail of an Instagram reel. It has a photo of Mark Carney speaking at a podium, edited to appear in front of smoke plumes amid a city. The text reads: "I'm all for international law 'theoretically'".
1/ This is utterly incoherent.
What Canadians need to hear from our Prime Minister right now is simple: call for a ceasefire and immediately withdraw your misguided support for Trump and Netanyahu’s illegal war.

A still from the NFB animation, "Neighbours." Two men sit in lawnchairs, reading newspapers. One headline reads, "Peace Certain If No War." The other reads, "War Certain If No Peace."

Not a single word about international law—these attacks are clearly, unambiguously illegal.
Not a single word about sovereignty—Carney’s supposed bedrock value, as claimed in Davos.
No concern about Iran being attacked by the US while pursuing diplomacy—as Canada embarks on existential USMCA talks.
Carney's enthusiastic embrace of a lawless US compares very unfavourably with Jean Chrétien's decision not to follow the US to Iraq or embrace BMD after 9/11. The fear in some quarters (e.g., the CD Howe Institute) was the same then as now: that the US would punish Canada for getting out of line.
RIP Democracy you would have loved prosecuting all these freaks
"There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part; you can even passibely take part, and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!" - Marco Savio

c'mon man
To this I'd add that Carney isn't just responding to Trump; he's showing the next US president -- Democratic or Republican -- that Canada, or at least Carney's Canada, has no red lines, no principles worth defending, and no guts for a real fight if push comes to shove (and it will).
Bravo to the team at @broadviewmedia.bsky.social for a wonderful 100th anniversary of the United Church issue. This anniversary means so much for Canada and isn't likely going to get the attention that it deserves, so at least we have Broadview!

presumably a cell tower covers about 5km, whereas the VHF Weatherradio transmitters cover about 60 km?

This is important.
Weather Radio is vital for Canadians everywhere, and particularly Canadians driving on the highways across the vast stretches of rural Canada with spotty cell coverage.

very disheartening
a screen shot of a map depicting cell towers, roughly centred on St. Peter's, PEI. there are four towers in the village of Morell, and another tower a few kilometres east of St. Peter's.
e.g. my experience in this area is, unless you are in the village of Morell, there's nothing (and even then not great).
another thing I'm not hyped about, Weatherradio is a public service, cell service is not
