i've lived abroad for 20 years, in a non-English speaking country, so don't actively use either term in spoken language. So if I lived in USA, I'm not sure how I'd handle it.

(In Finland there's the single term "transu" which I don't particularly like... but I'm stealth so don't describe myself

I didn't hear the word transgender until around 2008, i think? so I grew up with the term transsexual for 33ish years already... so it kinda stuck.
