If you're looking for something to root for, root for the PNW storm cycle over the next 2 weeks that could (partially) rescue Oregon & Washington from a catastrophic snowpack:

Warming of +1.5 °C is too high for polar ice sheets - Communications Earth & Environment Warming of +1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels is too high for the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets, and even the current climate forcing of +1.2 °C is likely to lead to several meters of sea-level ...

In case you need something else to worry about, scientists provide evidence that +1.5 °C of warming is already too high and is likely to generate several metres of sea-level rise over the coming centuries, causing extensive damage to coastal populations: www.nature.com/articles/s43...

Our children will face unprecedented exposure to weather extremes.

Our paper led by Luke Grant and @wimthiery.bsky.social published in @nature.com shows that the generation of our children and grandchildren will be exposed to a lot more weather extremes than ours.

You may see messages like this on parts of our website, including the drought page. We rely heavily on maps & data from the High Plains Regional Climate Center, which no longer has funding. We'll do our best to point to alternative data sources, but many of these products are not easy to replicate.

That this isn't surprising makes it no less infuriating and disappointing. Thank you to the many experts who put their time and energy into this much-needed effort.

Really glad to see a hybrid option offered for the next Adaptation Futures. It seems like options for participating in conferences remotely dropped off the map after the early years of the pandemic, but it's *so* important for promoting inclusion and reducing emissions.

NASA satellites reveal Earth's continents are getting drier "We don't think this is a coincidence, and it could be a harbinger of what's to come."

GRACE mission is finding less water in/on lands, which parallels expectations that warmer atmosphere (a) is more evaporatively β€œdemanding”, drying surfaces more, & (b) yields more intense Precip which runs off quicker, replenishing surfaces & subsrfaces less. 1/2
