The question of general intelligence is a promise of an interpretation, like a horizon, that will justify the surveillance - the "recording without reading". Silicon Valley is pretending having to have read the book, but it merely records.
The question “will there be general intelligence?” presumes a horizon of interpretation that the system does not allow to exist - however it is necessary to posit this possibility - or else the justification of the surveillance will cease.
